.WATCHES/WARNINGS...
A Tropical Storm Watch is now in effect for Pohnpei, Sapwuafik, and
Pakin in Pohnpei State.

A Tropical Storm Watch means tropical storm conditions are possible
within the next 48 hours.

Residents of Fananu should carefully monitor the progress of Tropical
Depression One.

.STORM INFORMATION...
At 700 AM ChST...2100 UTC, Tropical Depression 01W was located near
Latitude 6.0 degrees North and Longitude 157.6 degrees East. This is
about 35 miles east-northeast of Sapwuafik and about 80 miles south-
southwest of Pohnpei. 01W is moving northwest at 10 mph, and is
expected to make a slight turn toward the north-northwest with a
slight decrease in forward speed through Friday afternoon. 01W is
expected to intensify further today, likely becoming a tropical
storm this afternoon. Maximum sustained winds are 35 mph.

.SITUATION OVERVIEW...
TD 01W is expected to intensify later today, as it makes its way
across the islands of Pohnpei State, due to a favorable wind shear
environment and warm sea surface temperatures. The latest forecast
shows 01W becoming a tropical storm by this afternoon as it drifts
further north-northwest. Current satellite imagery indicates that the
storm is undergoing another cycle, so the short break in heavy
showers over Pohnpei may deteriorate quickly in the afternoon.

.NEXT UPDATE...
The next local statement will be issued by the National Weather
Service in Tiyan, Guam at 3 PM ChST, or sooner if conditions warrant.

...POHNPEI AND PAKIN...
