northeast of Sapwuafik this morning. 01W is expected to intensify
through Friday, possibly becoming a tropical storm this afternoon.
Maximum sustained winds are 30 mph.

.SITUATION OVERVIEW...

Preparations should be made as soon as possible, before conditions
deteriorate. Keep informed while listening for possible warnings. It
is important to actively listen for forthcoming information from your
local Weather Service Office and emergency management agency. Secure
loose outdoor objects which can be blown around.

Boat owners and captains of small craft need to determine the best
strategy for securing their craft.

In order to make the best decisions, be sure that you understand the
terminology and definitions associated with tropical cyclone events.

...WIND INFORMATION...
East winds of around 15 to 25 mph with higher gusts will continue
through the day, shifting south in the late afternoon. Winds may
reach tropical storm force at 30 to 40 mph later today if 01W slows
in its forward speed or intensifies faster than currently forecast.

...STORM SURGE AND SURF INFORMATION...
Choppy seas will build to between 7 to 10 feet today, resulting in
surf between 7 and 9 feet. Coastal inundation is not likely. Surf
will generate life-threatening rip currents, especially along south
and east facing reefs as 01W continues to move through.

...OTHER STORM EFFECTS...
Rainfall amounts of 5 to 8 inches, with locally heavier amounts in
excess of 10 inches possible through Friday afternoon.

Long periods of moderate to heavy rain, as are likely as 01W passes

increased risk of mudslides in areas of steeper terrain.
