.NEW INFORMATION...
This is the first local statement issued for Tropical Storm 16W.
A tropical storm watch is now in effect for Enewetak in the Republic
of the Marshall Islands.

.AREAS AFFECTED...
This local statement provides information and recommended actions
for Enewetak in the Republic of the Marshall Islands.

.WATCHES/WARNINGS...
A tropical storm watch is now in effect for Enewetak. Tropical storm
conditions, including damaging winds of 39 mph or more, are possible
by Saturday afternoon.

.STORM INFORMATION...
At 100 PM ChST...0300 UTC...the center of Tropical Storm 16W was
located near Latitude 12.7 degrees North and Longitude 167.9 degrees
East...moving west at 15 mph. Tropical Storm 16W is expected to
maintain this westward motion with little change in forward speed
for the next few days. On this track, 16W is forecast to pass about
60 miles north of Enewetak Saturday afternoon.

Maximum sustained winds have increased to 40 mph, making 16W a
tropical storm. 16W is forecast to maintain this intensity through
the weekend.

.SITUATION OVERVIEW...
Tropical Storm 16W is moving west with strongest sustained winds
north of the center. The center is expected to pass about 60 miles
north of Enewetak Saturday afternoon, with tropical storm force
winds remaining north of the atoll. However, if 16W dips south of
its forecast track, or if the wind field expands, damaging winds are
still possible Saturday afternoon as 16W passes.

.PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Begin preparations now for the possibility of damaging winds of
39 mph or more Saturday afternoon. Make sure tarps and other
lightweight structures are secured or taken down. Avoid unneeded
travel by boat, and make sure boats are properly moored. Stay up to
date on the latest information on Tropical Storm 16W.

The next local statement will be issued by 900 PM this evening or
sooner if needed.
