Tropical Weather Discussion
NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL
2320 UTC Fri Jun 26 2020

Tropical Weather Discussion for North America, Central America
Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, northern sections of South
America, and Atlantic Ocean to the African coast from the
Equator to 32N. The following information is based on satellite
imagery, weather observations, radar and meteorological analysis.

Based on 1800 UTC surface analysis and satellite imagery through
2330 UTC.

...TROPICAL WAVES...

A tropical wave extends from 01N to 17N with axis near 35W, moving
westward at 15-20 knots. There is no significant convection
associated with this wave as it is embedded with the dry Saharan
Air Layer.

A tropical wave extends from 01N to 16N with axis near 48W, moving
westward at 15-20 knots. There is no convection associated with
the wave as it is embedded in the dry environment as indicated by
the Low Level Precipitable Water imagery.

A tropical wave is in the central Caribbean Sea with axis near
70W, moving westward at 15-20 knots. The wave is in the leading
edge of a Saharan Air Layer outbreak, which dry air is hindering
convection at the time.

A tropical wave is in the W Caribbean S of 18N with axis near
83W, moving westward at 15-20 knots. Scattered showers and tstms
are in the SW basin S of 13N.

...MONSOON TROUGH/ITCZ...

The monsoon trough extends from 10N15W to 10N19W. The ITCZ
continues from 10N19W to 10N31W, then continues west of the
tropical wave from 08N37W to 08N45W, then from 07N50W to 06N57W.
Scattered moderate convection is from 05N to 11N between 18W and
33W; and from 06N to 10N between 37W and 44W.

GULF OF MEXICO...

A surface ridge extending SW from a 1024 mb high located at the
border between central Alabama and Georgia covers the basin this
evening. A weak pressure gradient across the region is supporting
gentle to moderate return flow basin-wide. Otherwise, an upper
level trough and shallow moisture support scattered showers in
the NW Gulf.

The surface ridge will prevail over the Gulf waters through
early next week. Moderate to fresh E to SE winds are expected
across most of the basin through Tue night, but light winds will
prevail over the NE Gulf during this time.

CARIBBEAN SEA...

Two tropical waves are moving across the basin. See tropical
waves section above. Fresh to strong trades will prevail across
the south central Caribbean through early next week. Winds may
pulse to near gale force along the coast of Colombia at nights. A
third tropical wave may approach the Leeward Islands early next
week.

ATLANTIC OCEAN...

High pressure dominates across the Atlantic waters with mainly
fair weather. Light to gentle winds will prevail through the
weekend as high pressure extends across the area from the Central
Atlantic. A trough passing east through the area may bring some
moderate to fresh westerly winds early next week N of 27N.
