Tropical Weather Discussion for North America, Central America
Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, northern sections of South
America, and Atlantic Ocean to the African coast from the
Equator to 32N. The following information is based on satellite
imagery, weather observations, radar and meteorological analysis.

Based on 0600 UTC surface analysis and satellite imagery through
1045 UTC.

...SPECIAL FEATURES...

Gale-force northeast winds are expected to continue through the
morning hours across the Caribbean waters just north of the coast
of Colombia. Please see the latest NWS High Seas Forecast under
AWIPS/WMO headers MIAHSFAT2/FZNT02 KNHC for more details.

...ITCZ/MONSOON TROUGH...

The Monsoon Trough extends from the coast of Africa near 10N14W to
09N16W. The Intertropical Convergence Zone extends from 09N16W to
00N38W. A surface trough was depicted in scatterometer data from
02N41W to 00N40W. Isolated moderate convection is observed near
the ITCZ and trough between 16W-44W.

...DISCUSSION...

GULF OF MEXICO...

A ridge axis extends across the basin from a 1024 mb high
pressure centered across the west Atlantic. With this, a
gentle to moderate anticyclonic flow prevails across the whole
area. A surface trough extends across the Bay of Campeche from
22N90W to 19N91W with isolated showers. Little change is expected
during the next 24 hours.

CARIBBEAN SEA...

Gale-force winds are currently occurring over the south-central
Caribbean. Please refer to the Special Features section above for
details. The remainder of the basin is expected to remain
relatively tranquil into Tuesday as dry air and subsidence
prevails aloft, as noted on water vapor imagery. Scatterometer
data depicts moderate to fresh trades across the remainder of the
basin. Little change is expected through the next 24 hours.

...HISPANIOLA...

Isolated showers in moderate to occasional fresh trade wind flow
will continue to affect the island overnight. A surface trough
northeast of the area will approach the eastern part of the
island today supporting showers.

ATLANTIC OCEAN...

A surface ridge prevail across the western Atlantic anchored by a
1024 mb high centered near 33N63W. Another area of high pressure
is centered near 29N57W. To the east of these features, a cold
front extends from 27N51W to a 1019 mb surface low near 35N42W.
Isolated showers prevail along this front. Another ridge prevails
across the remainder of the basin anchored by a 1032 mb high
centered near 38N25W. Expect for the cold front to continue moving
east during the next 24 hours while weakening. Surface ridging
will prevail across the basin.
