DANGEROUS CATEGORY 3 HURRICANE...

AT 1000 PM CDT...0300Z...THE CENTER OF HURRICANE GUSTAV WAS LOCATED
NEAR LATITUDE 27.3 NORTH...LONGITUDE 88.1 WEST OR ABOUT 220 MILES...
360 KM...SOUTHEAST OF NEW ORLEANS LOUISIANA AND ABOUT 310 MILES...
500 KM...SOUTHEAST OF LAFAYETTE LOUISIANA.  THIS POSITION IS ALSO
ABOUT 180 MILES...285 KM...SOUTHEAST OF PORT FOURCHON ALONG THE
LOUISIANA COAST.

GUSTAV IS MOVING TOWARD THE NORTHWEST NEAR 16 MPH...26 KM/HR...AND
THIS MOTION IS EXPECTED TO CONTINUE PRIOR TO LANDFALL.  ON THE
FORECAST TRACK...THE CENTER OF GUSTAV WOULD REACH THE NORTHERN GULF
COAST DURING THE DAYLIGHT HOURS TOMORROW.  A DECREASE IN FORWARD
SPEED IS EXPECTED TO OCCUR ON TUESDAY.

MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS ARE NEAR 115 MPH...185 KM/HR...WITH HIGHER
GUSTS.  GUSTAV IS A CATEGORY THREE HURRICANE ON THE SAFFIR-SIMPSON

PORTIONS OF SOUTHEASTERN MISSISSIPPI BEFORE SUNRISE MONDAY
MORNING AND WILL CONTINUE THROUGH THE AFTERNOON. THESE WINDS SHOULD
PERSIST INTO TUESDAY. WINDS OF THIS MAGNITUDE WILL RESULT IN MANY
DOWNED TREES AND POWER LINES AND POSSIBLE DAMAGE TO BUILDINGS AND
OTHER STRUCTURES. WIND GUSTS APPROACHING 70 MPH WILL BE POSSIBLE.

RAIN BANDS ASSOCIATED WITH GUSTAV WILL PRODUCE PERIODS OF
TORRENTIAL RAINFALL. THERE IS THE POSSIBILITY THAT THE HURRICANE
COULD BEGIN TO SLOW DOWN AFTER LANDFALL AND PROVIDE A PROLONGED RAIN
THREAT TO THE LOWER MISSISSIPPI VALLEY. RAINFALL TOTALS FROM 3 TO 6
INCHES ARE EXPECTED WITH ISOLATED AMOUNTS GREATER THAN 10 INCHES
POSSIBLE. A FLASH FLOOD WATCH IS IN EFFECT FOR MONDAY AFTERNOON
THROUGH TUESDAY FOR AREAS ALONG AND WEST OF A LINE FROM EUDORA TO
YAZOO CITY TO LAUREL.
