SITUATION OVERVIEW
------------------

POST-TROPICAL CYCLONE HERMINE IS MOVING TOWARD THE EAST-NORTHEAST
NEAR 13 MPH. A TURN TOWARD THE NORTHEAST AND THE NORTH WITH A DECREASE
IN FORWARD SPEED ARE EXPECTED ON SUNDAY, FOLLOWED BY A SLOW NORTHWARD
TO NORTHWESTWARD MOTION THROUGH MONDAY. ON THE FORECAST TRACK, THE
CENTER OF HERMINE WILL MEANDER SLOWLY OFF THE MID ATLANTIC COAST FOR
THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS.

A TROPICAL STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FOR LONG ISLAND...NEW YORK
CITY...AND SOUTHERN WESTCHESTER COUNTY IN SOUTHEAST NEW YORK...
HUDSON...EASTERN ESSEX AND UNION COUNTIES IN NORTHEAST NEW JERSEY...
COASTAL CONNECTICUT...AND ALL ADJACENT COASTAL WATERS. SUSTAINED
TROPICAL STORM FORCE WINDS ARE EXPECTED IN THESE AREAS. TROPICAL STORM
FORCE GUSTS ARE POSSIBLE A LITTLE FARTHER INLAND.

SIGNIFICANT STORM SURGE WITH MODERATE TO LOCALLY MAJOR COASTAL
FLOODING IS POSSIBLE AROUND THE TIMES OF HIGH TIDE FROM TONIGHT
ONWARD. HAZARDOUS SEAS...DANGEROUSLY ROUGH SURF...AND A LIFE
THREATENING RIP CURRENT RISK CAN ALSO BE EXPECTED THROUGH THE
WEEKEND AND INTO EARLY NEXT WEEK.

RAINFALL OF A HALF AN INCH TO UP TO ONE INCH IS POSSIBLE ACROSS
EASTERN LONG ISLAND AND SOUTHEAST CONNECTICUT...BUT AMOUNTS WILL
LOWER SIGNIFICANTLY FURTHER WEST.

POTENTIAL IMPACTS

* SURGE:
PREPARE FOR LIFE-THREATENING SURGE HAVING POSSIBLE SIGNIFICANT
IMPACTS ACROSS LOW-LYING COMMUNITIES ALONG THE
SOUTH SHORE AND EASTERN BAYS OF LONG ISLAND...AS WELL AS THE OCEAN
FRONT AND BARRIER ISLAND COMMUNITIES. POTENTIAL IMPACTS IN
THIS AREA INCLUDE:
    - AREAS OF INUNDATION WITH STORM SURGE FLOODING ACCENTUATED BY
      WAVES. DAMAGE TO SEVERAL BUILDINGS, MAINLY NEAR THE COAST.
    - SECTIONS OF NEAR-SHORE ESCAPE ROUTES AND SECONDARY ROADS BECOME
      WEAKENED OR WASHED OUT, ESPECIALLY IN USUALLY VULNERABLE LOW
      SPOTS.
    - FLOOD CONTROL SYSTEMS AND BARRIERS MAY BECOME STRESSED.
    - MAJOR BEACH EROSION WITH HEAVY SURF BREACHING DUNES. VERY
      DANGEROUS SURF AND RIP CURRENTS.
    - MODERATE DAMAGE TO MARINAS, DOCKS, BOARDWALKS, AND PIERS.
      SEVERAL SMALL CRAFT BROKEN AWAY FROM MOORINGS, ESPECIALLY IN
      UNPROTECTED ANCHORAGES.

* OTHER COASTAL HAZARDS:
BATTERING SURF CAPABLE OF CAUSING SIGNIFICANT DUNE EROSION AND
OVERWASHES IS EXPECTED THROUGH THE EARLY WEEK. DANGEROUSLY ROUGH
SURF...AND A LIFE THREATENING RIP CURRENT RISK IS EXPECTED
THROUGH THE EARLY WEEK.

* WIND:
PREPARE FOR HIGH WIND HAVING POSSIBLE SIGNIFICANT IMPACTS ACROSS
EASTERN LONG ISLAND AND SOUTHEAST CONNECTICUT. POTENTIAL IMPACTS IN
THIS AREA INCLUDE:
    - SOME DAMAGE TO ROOFING AND SIDING MATERIALS, ALONG WITH DAMAGE
      TO PORCHES, AWNINGS, CARPORTS, AND SHEDS. A FEW BUILDINGS
      EXPERIENCING WINDOW, DOOR, AND GARAGE DOOR FAILURES. MOBILE
      HOMES DAMAGED, ESPECIALLY IF UNANCHORED. UNSECURED LIGHTWEIGHT
      OBJECTS BECOME DANGEROUS PROJECTILES.
    - SEVERAL LARGE TREES SNAPPED OR UPROOTED, BUT WITH GREATER
      NUMBERS IN PLACES WHERE TREES ARE SHALLOW ROOTED. SEVERAL
      FENCES AND ROADWAY SIGNS BLOWN OVER.
    - SOME ROADS IMPASSABLE FROM LARGE DEBRIS, AND MORE WITHIN URBAN
      OR HEAVILY WOODED PLACES. A FEW BRIDGES, CAUSEWAYS, AND ACCESS
      ROUTES IMPASSABLE.
    - SCATTERED POWER AND COMMUNICATIONS OUTAGES, BUT MORE PREVALENT
      IN AREAS WITH ABOVE GROUND LINES.


* FLOODING RAIN:
NO IMPACTS ARE ANTICIPATED AT THIS TIME
ACROSS SOUTHEASTERN NEW YORK...NORTHEASTERN NEW JERSEY AND SOUTHERN
CONNECTICUT.

* TORNADOES:
NO IMPACTS ARE ANTICIPATED AT THIS TIME
