SITUATION OVERVIEW

HERMINE WILL MEANDER VERY SLOWLY NORTHWARD OFF THE MID ATLANTIC
COAST THROUGH MIDWEEK...CONTINUING TO PRODUCE MINOR TO LOCALLY
MODERATE COASTAL FLOODING...HIGH SURF...AND TROPICAL STORM FORCE WIND
GUSTS ALONG THE OCEAN SIDE OF THE EASTERN SHORE.
WINDS TODAY WILL REMAIN BELOW TROPICAL STORM FORCE...BUT ARE EXPECTED
TO INCREASE BY EARLY MONDAY WITH TROPICAL STORM FORCE GUSTS POSSIBLE
ALONG THE OCEAN SIDE OF THE EASTERN SHORE. THESE CONDITIONS WILL
CONTINUE TO CAUSE HIGH SURF...WHILE ALSO ALLOWING FOR SOME BEACH
EROSION AS WELL AS DANGEROUS RIP CURRENTS ALONG THE IMMEDIATE COAST.
THE MOST SIGNIFICANT IMPACT WILL BE MINOR COASTAL FLOODING AT TIMES OF
HIGH TIDE TODAY...WITH MODERATE COASTAL FLOODING POSSIBLE ON MONDAY
ACROSS THE OCEAN SIDE OF THE LOWER EASTERN SHORE.
POTENTIAL IMPACTS

* SURGE:
POTENTIAL IMPACTS FROM THE MAIN SURGE EVENT CONTINUE TO UNFOLD ACROSS
THE LOWER CHESAPEAKE BAY INCLUDING THE HAMPTON ROADS AREA AND THE
OCEAN SIDE OF THE EASTERN SHORE. REMAIN WELL AWAY FROM LIFE-THREATENING
SURGE HAVING SIGNIFICANT IMPACTS. IF REALIZED, THESE IMPACTS INCLUDE:
- AREAS OF INUNDATION WITH STORM SURGE FLOODING ACCENTUATED BY
WAVES. SOME DAMAGE TO BUILDINGS, MAINLY NEAR THE COAST, WHERE
THE IMPACT OF WAVES IS GREATEST.
- SECTIONS OF NEAR-SHORE ESCAPE ROUTES AND SECONDARY ROADS BECOME
WEAKENED OR WASHED OUT, ESPECIALLY IN VULNERABLE LOW SPOTS.
- MAJOR BEACH EROSION WITH HEAVY SURF POSSIBLY BREACHING DUNES.
NUMEROUS STRONG RIP CURRENTS.
- DAMAGE TO MARINAS, DOCKS, BOARDWALKS, AND PIERS. SMALL CRAFT
BROKEN AWAY FROM MOORINGS, ESPECIALLY IN UNPROTECTED MARINAS
AND DOCKS.
ELSEWHERE ACROSS CENTRAL AND EASTERN VIRGINIA...NORTHEAST NORTH
CAROLINA...AND THE INTERIOR LOWER MARYLAND EASTERN SHORE, LITTLE TO
NO IMPACT IS ANTICIPATED.
* WIND:
POTENTIAL IMPACTS FROM THE MAIN WIND EVENT CONTINUE TO WIND DOWN ACROSS
THE ATLANTIC SIDE OF THE LOWER EASTERN SHORE. REMAIN WELL SHELTERED FROM
HAZARDOUS WIND HAVING ADDITIONAL LIMITED IMPACTS ON MONDAY. IF REALIZED,
THESE IMPACTS INCLUDE:
- DAMAGE TO PORCHES, AWNINGS, CARPORTS, SHEDS, AND UNANCHORED
MOBILE HOMES. UNSECURED LIGHTWEIGHT OBJECTS BLOWN ABOUT.
- MANY LARGE TREE LIMBS BROKEN OFF. A FEW TREES SNAPPED OR
UPROOTED, ESPECIALLY IF SOILS ARE SATURATED. SOME FENCES AND
ROADWAY SIGNS DAMAGED.
- A FEW ROADS IMPASSABLE FROM DEBRIS, PARTICULARLY WITHIN URBAN
OR HEAVILY WOODED AREAS. HAZARDOUS DRIVING CONDITIONS ON
BRIDGES AND OTHER ELEVATED ROADWAYS.
- SCATTERED POWER AND COMMUNICATIONS OUTAGES.
ELSEWHERE ACROSS CENTRAL AND EASTERN VIRGINIA...NORTHEAST NORTH
CAROLINA...AND THE INTERIOR LOWER MARYLAND EASTERN SHORE, LITTLE TO NO
IMPACT IS ANTICIPATED.
