    - THE TROPICAL STORM WARNING FOR WASHINGTON HAS BEEN CANCELLED

* CURRENT WATCHES AND WARNINGS:
    - A TROPICAL STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FOR
      TYRRELL...MAINLAND DARE...MAINLAND HYDE...OUTER BANKS DARE AND
      OUTER BANKS HYDE

* STORM INFORMATION:
    - ABOUT 30 MILES EAST-NORTHEAST OF NAGS HEAD NC
    - 36.1N 75.2W
    - STORM INTENSITY 65 MPH
    - MOVEMENT EAST-NORTHEAST OR 60 DEGREES AT 15 MPH

SITUATION OVERVIEW
------------------

TROPICAL STORM HERMINE...LOCATED EAST OF THE NORTHERN OUTER
BANKS, IS MOVING TOWARD THE EAST NORTHEAST NEAR 15 MPH. HERMINE
WILL STALL OFF THE MID ATLANTIC COAST INTO NEXT WEEK.

TROPICAL STORM FORCE WINDS WILL REMAIN FOR THE OUTER BANKS AREA
THROUGH THIS AFTERNOON. WINDS OF 35 TO 45 MPH WITH GUSTS TO 60 MPH
REMAIN LIKELY FOR THE OUTER BANKS THROUGH THIS AFTERNOON.

THE FOCUS OF MINOR TO LOCALLY MODERATE STORM SURGE INUNDATION WILL
CONTINUE ACROSS THE SOUNDSIDE AND OCEAN SIDE OF THE OUTER BANKS
TODAY. MINOR TO LOCALLY MODERATE STORM SURGE FLOODING OF 1 TO 3
FEET ABOVE GROUND, WITH SOME LOCATIONS UP TO 4 FEET ABOVE GROUND
LEVEL WILL BE POSSIBLE THROUGH EARLY SUNDAY. SOME LOCATIONS MORE
PRONE TO RECEIVE THE HIGHER SURGE VALUES FOR THIS EVENT INCLUDE
AREAS ALONG AND NEAR...OCEANSIDE AND SOUNDSIDE NORTH OF
HATTERAS.

THERE WILL BE LARGE WAVES AND MINOR TO MODERATE BEACH EROSION
ALONG THE COAST NORTH OF HATTERAS.

POTENTIAL IMPACTS
-----------------

* SURGE:
POTENTIAL IMPACTS FROM THE MAIN SURGE EVENT ARE NOW UNFOLDING ACROSS
SOUNDSIDE OF PAMLICO SOUND AJACENT TO HATTERAS ISLAND. THE FOCUS FOR
STORM SURGE WILL BE ACROSS THE SOUND AND OCEAN SIDE OF HATTERAS ISLAND
AND POINTS NORTH. REMAIN WELL AWAY FROM LOCALLY HAZARDOUS SURGE.
IMPACTS INCLUDE:
    - LOCALIZED INUNDATION WITH STORM SURGE FLOODING MAINLY ALONG
      IMMEDIATE SHORELINES AND IN LOW-LYING SPOTS, OR IN AREAS
      FARTHER INLAND NEAR WHERE HIGHER SURGE WATERS MOVE ASHORE.
    - SECTIONS OF NEAR-SHORE ROADS AND PARKING LOTS BECOME OVERSPREAD
      WITH SURGE WATER. DRIVING CONDITIONS DANGEROUS IN PLACES WHERE
      SURGE WATER COVERS THE ROAD.
    - MODERATE BEACH EROSION. HEAVY SURF ALSO BREACHING DUNES, MAINLY
      IN USUALLY VULNERABLE LOCATIONS. STRONG RIP CURRENTS.
    - MINOR TO LOCALLY MODERATE DAMAGE TO MARINAS, DOCKS, BOARDWALKS,
      AND PIERS. A FEW SMALL CRAFT BROKEN AWAY FROM MOORINGS.

ELSEWHERE ACROSS EASTERN NORTH CAROLINA, LITTLE TO NO IMPACT IS
ANTICIPATED.

* WIND:
POTENTIAL IMPACTS FROM THE MAIN WIND EVENT ARE NOW UNFOLDING ACROSS
THE OUTER BANKS. REMAIN WELL SHELTERED FROM DANGEROUS
WIND HAVING ADDITIONAL SIGNIFICANT IMPACTS. IF
REALIZED, THESE IMPACTS INCLUDE:
    - SOME DAMAGE TO ROOFING AND SIDING MATERIALS, ALONG WITH DAMAGE
      TO PORCHES, AWNINGS, CARPORTS, AND SHEDS. A FEW BUILDINGS
      EXPERIENCING WINDOW, DOOR, AND GARAGE DOOR FAILURES. MOBILE
      HOMES DAMAGED, ESPECIALLY IF UNANCHORED. UNSECURED LIGHTWEIGHT
      OBJECTS BECOME DANGEROUS PROJECTILES.
    - SEVERAL LARGE TREES SNAPPED OR UPROOTED, BUT WITH GREATER
      NUMBERS IN PLACES WHERE TREES ARE SHALLOW ROOTED. SEVERAL
      FENCES AND ROADWAY SIGNS BLOWN OVER.
    - SOME ROADS IMPASSABLE FROM LARGE DEBRIS, AND MORE WITHIN URBAN
      OR HEAVILY WOODED PLACES. A FEW BRIDGES, CAUSEWAYS, AND ACCESS
      ROUTES IMPASSABLE.
    - SCATTERED POWER AND COMMUNICATIONS OUTAGES, BUT MORE PREVALENT
      IN AREAS WITH ABOVE GROUND LINES.

ELSEWHERE ACROSS EASTERN NORTH CAROLINA, LITTLE TO NO IMPACT IS
ANTICIPATED.
