SITUATION OVERVIEW

POST-TROPICAL CYCLONE HERMINE LOCATED JUST OFFSHORE OF THE NORTH CAROLINA
COAST WILL MOVE NORTHEAST DURING THE NEXT 24 HOURS...MAKING ITS CLOSEST
APPROACH TO ST. MARYS COUNTY AROUND NOON TODAY. RAIN HAS ENDED OVER
ST. MARYS COUNTY BUT WIND GUSTS TO TROPICAL STORM FORCE WILL CONTINUE
THROUGH THIS AFTERNOON ESPECIALLY AT POINT LOOKOUT BEFORE THEY START
DIMINISHING EARLY THIS EVENING.
HERMINE IS EXPECTED TO SLOW DOWN SIGNIFICANTLY ON SUNDAY BUT IT IS EXPECTED
TO REMAIN FAR ENOUGH EAST OF THE CHESAPEAKE BAY TO PRODUCE ANY SIGNIFICANT
IMPACTS.
POTENTIAL IMPACTS

* WIND:
POTENTIAL IMPACTS FROM THE MAIN WIND EVENT ARE NOW UNFOLDING ACROSS
SOUTHERN MARYLAND. REMAIN WELL SHELTERED FROM HAZARDOUS
WIND HAVING LIMITED IMPACTS. IF REALIZED,
THESE IMPACTS INCLUDE:
- DAMAGE TO PORCHES, AWNINGS, CARPORTS, SHEDS, AND UNANCHORED
MOBILE HOMES. UNSECURED LIGHTWEIGHT OBJECTS BLOWN ABOUT.
- MANY LARGE TREE LIMBS BROKEN OFF. A FEW TREES SNAPPED OR
UPROOTED, ESPECIALLY WHERE THE GROUND IS SATURATED. SOME FENCES
AND ROADWAY SIGNS DAMAGED.
- A FEW ROADS IMPASSABLE FROM DEBRIS, ESPECIALLY IN HEAVILY
WOODED AREAS. HAZARDOUS DRIVING CONDITIONS ON BRIDGES AND OTHER
ELEVATED ROADWAYS.
- SCATTERED POWER AND COMMUNICATIONS OUTAGES.
ELSEWHERE ACROSS EASTERN WEST VIRGINIA, CENTRAL AND WESTERN MARYLAND,
NORTHERN AND NORTHWESTERN VIRGINIA, AND DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, LITTLE
