SITUATION OVERVIEW

TROPICAL STORM HERMINE...LOCATED ACROSS THE NORTHERN PAMLICO SOUND, IS
MOVING TOWARD THE NORTHEAST AND WILL EXIT OFF THE NORTHERN OUTER BANKS
THIS MORNING. HERMINE WILL TRACK NORTHEASTWARD TODAY THEN STALL OFF THE
MID ATLANTIC COAST INTO NEXT WEEK.
SOME IMPACTS FROM HERMINE ARE WINDING DOWN ACROSS EASTERN NC. THE
FLOODING RAIN THREAT AND TORNADO THREAT HAVE ENDED ACROSS EASTERN NC.
RAIN WILL CONTINUE TO TAPER OFF TODAY AS HERMINE LIFTS NORTHEAST AWAY
FROM EASTERN NC.
TROPICAL STORM FORCE WINDS WILL REMAIN POSSIBLE FOR THE OUTER BANKS
AND COUNTIES ADJACENT TO THE ALBEMARLE SOUND THROUGH THIS MORNING.
INLAND LOCATIONS MAY SEE AN OCCASIONAL GUST TO TROPICAL STORM FORCE.
WINDS OF 35 TO 45 MPH WITH GUSTS TO 60 MPH REMAIN LIKELY FOR THE
NORTHERN OUTER BANKS THROUGH THIS MORNING.
THE FOCUS OF MINOR TO LOCALLY MODERATE STORM SURGE INUNDATION WILL
SHIFT FROM THE WESTERN REACHES OF THE PAMLICO SOUND TO THE SOUNDSIDE
OF THE OUTER BANKS, AND OCEANSIDE OF THE OUTER BANKS NORTH OF CAPE
HATTERAS TODAY. MINOR TO LOCALLY MODERATE STORM SURGE FLOODING OF 1 TO
3 FEET ABOVE GROUND LEVEL WILL BE POSSIBLE THROUGH EARLY SUNDAY. SOME
LOCATIONS MORE PRONE TO RECEIVE THE HIGHER SURGE VALUES FOR THIS EVENT
INCLUDE AREAS ALONG AND NEAR...OCEANSIDE AND SOUNDSIDE NORTH OF
HATTERAS...THE NEUSE RIVER...THE PAMLICO RIVER...THE PUNGO RIVER...THE
BAY RIVER.
THERE WILL BE LARGE WAVES AND MINOR TO LOCALLY MODERATE BEACH EROSION
ALONG THE ENTIRE COAST.
POTENTIAL IMPACTS

* WIND:
POTENTIAL IMPACTS FROM THE MAIN WIND EVENT ARE NOW UNFOLDING ACROSS
THE NORTHERN OUTER BANKS AND COUNTIES ADJACENT TO THE ALBEMARLE SOUND.
REMAIN WELL SHELTERED FROM DANGEROUS WIND HAVING ADDITIONAL
SIGNIFICANT IMPACTS. IF REALIZED, THESE IMPACTS INCLUDE:
- SOME DAMAGE TO ROOFING AND SIDING MATERIALS, ALONG WITH DAMAGE
TO PORCHES, AWNINGS, CARPORTS, AND SHEDS. A FEW BUILDINGS
EXPERIENCING WINDOW, DOOR, AND GARAGE DOOR FAILURES. MOBILE
HOMES DAMAGED, ESPECIALLY IF UNANCHORED. UNSECURED LIGHTWEIGHT
OBJECTS BECOME DANGEROUS PROJECTILES.
- SEVERAL LARGE TREES SNAPPED OR UPROOTED, BUT WITH GREATER
NUMBERS IN PLACES WHERE TREES ARE SHALLOW ROOTED. SEVERAL
FENCES AND ROADWAY SIGNS BLOWN OVER.
- SOME ROADS IMPASSABLE FROM LARGE DEBRIS, AND MORE WITHIN URBAN
OR HEAVILY WOODED PLACES. A FEW BRIDGES, CAUSEWAYS, AND ACCESS
ROUTES IMPASSABLE.
- SCATTERED POWER AND COMMUNICATIONS OUTAGES, BUT MORE PREVALENT
IN AREAS WITH ABOVE GROUND LINES.
* SURGE:
POTENTIAL IMPACTS FROM THE MAIN SURGE EVENT ARE NOW UNFOLDING ACROSS
ACROSS THE WESTERN PORTIONS OF THE PAMLICO SOUND. THE FOCUS FOR STORM
SURGE WILL SHIFT TO THE SOUNDSIDE OF THE OUTER BANKS AND OCEANSIDE OF
THE OUTER BANKS NORTH OF CAPE HATTERAS TODAY. REMAIN WELL AWAY FROM
LOCALLY HAZARDOUS SURGE HAVING POSSIBLE ADDITIONAL IMPACTS. IF
REALIZED, THESE IMPACTS INCLUDE:
- LOCALIZED INUNDATION WITH STORM SURGE FLOODING MAINLY ALONG
IMMEDIATE SHORELINES AND IN LOW-LYING SPOTS, OR IN AREAS
FARTHER INLAND NEAR WHERE HIGHER SURGE WATERS MOVE ASHORE.
- SECTIONS OF NEAR-SHORE ROADS AND PARKING LOTS BECOME OVERSPREAD
WITH SURGE WATER. DRIVING CONDITIONS DANGEROUS IN PLACES WHERE
SURGE WATER COVERS THE ROAD.
- MODERATE BEACH EROSION. HEAVY SURF ALSO BREACHING DUNES, MAINLY
IN USUALLY VULNERABLE LOCATIONS. STRONG RIP CURRENTS.
- MINOR TO LOCALLY MODERATE DAMAGE TO MARINAS, DOCKS, BOARDWALKS,
AND PIERS. A FEW SMALL CRAFT BROKEN AWAY FROM MOORINGS.
ELSEWHERE ACROSS EASTERN NORTH CAROLINA, LITTLE TO NO IMPACT IS
ANTICIPATED.
