    - STORM INTENSITY 50 MPH
    - MOVEMENT NORTHEAST OR 55 DEGREES AT 22 MPH

SITUATION OVERVIEW
------------------

TROPICAL STORM HERMINE LOCATED NEAR THE CAROLINA COASTLINE WILL
MOVE NORTHEAST DURING THE NEXT 24 HOURS...MAKING ITS CLOSEST APPROACH
TO ST. MARYS COUNTY SATURDAY AFTERNOON. RAIN BANDS AND WINDS TO
TROPICAL STORM FORCE WILL BEGIN TO AFFECT SOUTHERN MARYLAND LATE
TONIGHT AND PERSIST INTO SATURDAY AFTERNOON. THE HEAVIEST RAIN IS
EXPECTED TO REMAIN SOUTHEAST OF THE LOCAL AREA. THERE MAY BE A
DIMINISHING TREND IN THE RAIN AND WIND SATURDAY NIGHT. HOWEVER...
HERMINE WILL THEN SLOW DOWN SIGNIFICANTLY...STALLING OUT OFF THE
MID-ATLANTIC COAST SUNDAY.

THE STORM MAY MOVE BACK TOWARD THE COAST SUNDAY THROUGH MONDAY...
POSSIBLY BRINGING MORE RAIN AND A SECOND PERIOD OF INCREASED WINDS FOR
LOCATIONS NEAR AND EAST OF INTERSTATE 95. THE FORECAST FOR THE FIRST
PART OF NEXT WEEK REMAINS HIGHLY UNCERTAIN...AND INTERESTED PARTIES
SHOULD CONTINUE TO MONITOR THE LATEST FORECAST.

POTENTIAL IMPACTS
-----------------

* WIND:
PROTECT AGAINST HAZARDOUS WIND HAVING POSSIBLE LIMITED IMPACTS ACROSS
SOUTHERN MARYLAND. POTENTIAL IMPACTS INCLUDE:
    - DAMAGE TO PORCHES, AWNINGS, CARPORTS, SHEDS, AND UNANCHORED
      MOBILE HOMES. UNSECURED LIGHTWEIGHT OBJECTS BLOWN ABOUT.
    - MANY LARGE TREE LIMBS BROKEN OFF. A FEW TREES SNAPPED OR
      UPROOTED, ESPECIALLY WHERE THE GROUND IS SATURATED. SOME FENCES
      AND ROADWAY SIGNS DAMAGED.
    - A FEW ROADS IMPASSABLE FROM DEBRIS, ESPECIALLY IN HEAVILY
      WOODED AREAS. HAZARDOUS DRIVING CONDITIONS ON BRIDGES AND OTHER
      ELEVATED ROADWAYS.
    - SCATTERED POWER AND COMMUNICATIONS OUTAGES.

ELSEWHERE ACROSS EASTERN WEST VIRGINIA, CENTRAL AND WESTERN MARYLAND,
NORTHERN AND NORTHWESTERN VIRGINIA, AND DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, LITTLE
TO NO IMPACT IS ANTICIPATED THROUGH SATURDAY. PERSONS ALONG AND EAST
OF THE INTERSTATE 95 CORRIDOR SHOULD MONITOR THE FORECAST FOR SUNDAY
AND MONDAY...AS STRONG WINDS MAY EXPAND BACK WESTWARD.

* SURGE:
PROTECT AGAINST LOCALLY HAZARDOUS SURGE HAVING POSSIBLE LIMITED
IMPACTS ACROSS SAINT MARYS COUNTY. POTENTIAL IMPACTS IN THIS AREA
INCLUDE:
    - LOCALIZED INUNDATION WITH STORM SURGE FLOODING MAINLY ALONG
      IMMEDIATE TIDAL SHORELINES, AND IN LOW-LYING SPOTS.
    - SECTIONS OF NEAR-SHORE ROADS AND PARKING LOTS BECOME FLOODED.
      DRIVING CONDITIONS DANGEROUS IN PLACES WHERE SURGE WATER COVERS
      THE ROAD.
    - MODERATE SHORELINE EROSION.
    - MINOR TO LOCALLY MODERATE DAMAGE TO MARINAS, DOCKS, BOARDWALKS,
      AND PIERS. A FEW SMALL CRAFT BROKEN AWAY FROM MOORINGS.

ELSEWHERE ACROSS THE WESTERN SHORE OF THE CHESAPEAKE BAY AND THE
TIDAL POTOMAC RIVER, LITTLE TO NO IMPACT IS ANTICIPATED. PERSONS
WITH INTERESTS ALONG SENSITIVE SHORELINE SHOULD MONITOR THE TIDE
FORECASTS THROUGH SATURDAY.

* FLOODING RAIN:
LITTLE TO NO IMPACTS ARE ANTICIPATED AT THIS TIME ACROSS EASTERN
WEST VIRGINIA, CENTRAL AND WESTERN MARYLAND, NORTHERN AND
NORTHWESTERN VIRGINIA, AND DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA.

IF YOU ARE EXCEPTIONALLY VULNERABLE TO WIND OR WATER HAZARDS FROM

OR SAFE DESTINATION.
