SITUATION OVERVIEW

TROPICAL STORM HERMINE IS MOVING THROUGH THE NORTHERN GULF OF MEXICO
AND IS EXPECTED TO MAKE LANDFALL LATE TONIGHT NEAR APALACHICOLA
FLORIDA. THE STORM WILL ACCELERATE NORTH AND NORTHEASTWARD AND MOVE
THROUGH THE EASTERN CAROLINAS LATER FRIDAY INTO EARLY SATURDAY.
SEVERAL HOURS OF VERY HEAVY RAIN AND TROPICAL STORM FORCE WINDS ARE
EXPECTED DURING THIS TIME.
A TROPICAL STORM WATCH HAS BEEN ISSUED FOR MOST OF THE AREA. A FLASH
FLOOD WATCH HAS BEEN ISSUED FOR ALL AREAS FROM EARLY FRIDAY THROUGH
EARLY SATURDAY. THE STORM PREDICTION CENTER HAS ALSO INCLUDED A SLIGHT
RISK FOR SEVERE WEATHER FRIDAY AND EARLY SATURDAY WITH THE MAIN THREAT
BEING STRONG WINDS AND ISOLATED TORNADOES.
VERY HAZARDOUS SEAS, ROUGH SURF CAN BE EXPECTED BEGINNING EARLY FRIDAY
AND CONTINUING THROUGH SATURDAY. A HIGH RIP CURRENT RISK CONTINUES FOR
ALL AREAS THROUGH SATURDAY AS WELL.
POTENTIAL IMPACTS

* WIND:
PREPARE FOR DANGEROUS WIND HAVING POSSIBLE SIGNIFICANT IMPACTS ACROSS
THE AREA. POTENTIAL IMPACTS IN THIS AREA INCLUDE:
- SOME DAMAGE TO ROOFING AND SIDING, ALONG WITH DAMAGE TO PORCHES
AND AWNINGS. SOME SMALL LIMBS MAY BREAK OFF AS WELL.
* SURGE:
LITTLE IMPACTS ARE ANTICIPATED AT THIS TIME ACROSS SOUTHEAST
NORTH CAROLINA AND NORTHEAST SOUTH CAROLINA.
- ONE TO TWO FEET OF OCEAN RUN UP IS POSSIBLE.
* FLOODING RAIN:
PREPARE FOR HEAVY RAINFALL AND MINOR FLOODING IMPACTS ACROSS SOUTHEAST NORTH
CAROLINA AND NORTHEAST SOUTH CAROLINA.
POTENTIAL IMPACTS INCLUDE:
- SOME MINOR STREET FLOODING AND IN POOR DRAINAGE AREAS.
* TORNADOES:
ISOLATED TORNADOES ARE POSSIBLE WITH LIMITED IMPACTS ACROSS
SOUTHEAST NORTH CAROLINA AND NORTHEAST SOUTH CAROLINA. POTENTIAL
IMPACTS INCLUDE:
- THE OCCURRENCE OF ISOLATED TORNADOES CAN HINDER THE EXECUTION
OF EMERGENCY PLANS DURING TROPICAL EVENTS.
- A FEW PLACES MAY EXPERIENCE TORNADO DAMAGE, ALONG WITH POWER
AND COMMUNICATIONS DISRUPTIONS.
