POST TROPICAL CYCLONE MATTHEW LOCATED JUT OFFSHORE AND EAST OF CAPE
HATTERAS...WILL CONTINUES TO TRACK EASTWARD THIS AFTERNOON AND
TONIGHT...FURTHER AWAY FROM THE U.S. MAINLAND. WIND GUSTS OF 30 TO
40 MPH WILL REMAIN POSSIBLE ACROSS COASTAL SECTIONS OF THE CAPE FEAR
REGION THROUGH EARLY THIS AFTERNOON. WINDS WILL FINALLY EASE BY THE
MID TO LATE AFTERNOON AS MATTHEW PULLS EVEN FURTHER AWAY FROM THE NC
COAST.
POTENTIAL IMPACTS

* WIND:
PROTECT AGAINST HAZARDOUS WIND HAVING POSSIBLE LIMITED IMPACTS
ACROSS SOUTHEAST NORTH CAROLINA. POTENTIAL IMPACTS INCLUDE:
- DAMAGE TO PORCHES, AWNINGS, CARPORTS, SHEDS, AND UNANCHORED
MOBILE HOMES IS POSSIBLE. UNSECURED LIGHTWEIGHT OBJECTS MAY BE
BLOWN ABOUT.
- SOME LARGE LIMBS MAY BREAK FROM TREES. A FEW SHALLOW ROOTED OR
WEAK TREES MAY SNAP OR BE KNOCKED DOWN. SOME FENCES AND ROADWAY
SIGNS DAMAGED.
- A FEW ROADS MAY BECOME IMPASSABLE DUE TO DEBRIS, PARTICULARLY
WITHIN URBAN OR HEAVILY WOODED LOCATIONS. HAZARDOUS DRIVING
CONDITIONS ARE POSSIBLE, ESPECIALLY FOR HIGH PROFILE VEHICLES
ON BRIDGES AND OTHER ELEVATED ROADWAYS.
- SCATTERED POWER AND COMMUNICATIONS OUTAGES ARE POSSIBLE.

DO NOT DRIVE WHERE WATER COVERS THE ROAD. DO NOT DRIVE AROUND ANY

BE A GOOD NEIGHBOR AND CHECK ON THOSE LIVING NEXT TO YOU. BE
NEIGHBORLY AND LEND A HELPING HAND.
WHEN CLEARING OUT FALLEN TREES, BE CAREFUL WITH CHAIN SAWS AND
AXES. ALWAYS WEAR PROTECTIVE GEAR AND KEEP OTHERS AT A SAFE
DISTANCE. USE THESE TOOLS ACCORDING TO OPERATING MANUALS AND
SAFETY INSTRUCTION. LEANING TREES AND THOSE WHICH HAVE FALLEN
ON ROOF TOPS CAN BE ESPECIALLY CHALLENGING. IF YOU ARE NOT IN
GOOD HEALTH OR UNSURE ABOUT WHAT YOU ARE DOING, HAVE SOMEONE
ELSE WITH TREE CUTTING EXPERIENCE DO THE JOB. NEVER CUT TREES
WITHOUT A PARTNER.
IF USING A GENERATOR, AVOID CARBON MONOXIDE POISONING BY FOLLOWING
