SITUATION OVERVIEW
------------------
HURRICANE MATTHEW CONTINUES TO LIFT NORTHWARDS AWAY FROM SOUTH
FLORIDA THIS MORNING, WITH THE CENTER CURRENTLY LOCATED VERY NEAR CAPE
CANAVERAL.
LINGERING RAINBANDS ON THE SOUTH SIDE OF THE STORM WILL BRING GUSTS
TO TROPICAL STORM FORCE ACROSS NORTHEASTERN PALM BEACH COUNTY, AND
THE ADJACENT ATLANTIC WATERS THROUGH THE MID MORNING HOURS. FOR
THE REMAINDER OF SOUTH FLORIDA, GUSTY STORMS MORE TYPICAL OF
SOUTH FLORIDA WILL REMAIN POSSIBLE THROUGH THE DAY WITH THE
TRAILING RAINBANDS OF MATTHEW. CONDITIONS WILL CONTINUE TO IMPROVE
ACROSS THE REGION WITH DIMINISHING WINDS THROUGH LATE MORNING.
HAZARDOUS MARINE CONDITIONS AND DANGEROUS SURF WILL CONTINUE OVER ALL
THE LOCAL WATERS INTO THIS WEEKEND, ESPECIALLY OVER THE ATLANTIC.
MINOR COASTAL FLOODING WILL ALSO BE POSSIBLE AT VULNERABLE LOCATIONS
ALONG THE ATLANTIC COAST WITH HIGH TIDE THIS AFTERNOON. THIS WILL LEAD
TO CONTINUING ATLANTIC BEACH EROSION, AS WELL AS A HIGH RISK OF RIP
CURRENTS THROUGH THE WEEKEND.
POTENTIAL IMPACTS
-----------------
* WIND:
POTENTIAL IMPACTS FROM THE MAIN WIND EVENT ARE NOW UNFOLDING ACROSS
EASTERN PALM BEACH COUNTY. REMAIN WELL SHELTERED FROM HAZARDOUS WIND
HAVING ADDITIONAL LIMITED IMPACTS. IF REALIZED, THESE IMPACTS INCLUDE:
- DAMAGE TO PORCHES, AWNINGS, CARPORTS, SHEDS, AND UNANCHORED MOBILE
HOMES. UNSECURED LIGHTWEIGHT OBJECTS BLOWN ABOUT.
- MANY LARGE TREE LIMBS BROKEN OFF. A FEW TREES SNAPPED OR UPROOTED,
BUT WITH GREATER NUMBERS IN PLACES WHERE TREES ARE SHALLOW ROOTED.
SOME FENCES AND ROADWAY SIGNS BLOWN OVER.
- A FEW ROADS IMPASSABLE FROM DEBRIS, PARTICULARLY WITHIN URBAN OR
HEAVILY WOODED PLACES. HAZARDOUS DRIVING CONDITIONS ON BRIDGES AND
OTHER ELEVATED ROADWAYS.
- SCATTERED POWER AND COMMUNICATIONS OUTAGES, ESPECIALLY WHERE HEAVY
RAIN HAS OCCURRED.
ELSEWHERE ACROSS SOUTH FLORIDA, LITTLE TO NO IMPACT IS ANTICIPATED.
