NORTH-NORTHEAST OF BUXTON NC...OR ABOUT 120 MILES NORTHEAST OF
MOREHEAD CITY NC. STORM MOTION WAS NE OR 40 DEGREES AT 23 MPH.
STORM INTENSITY WAS 100 MPH.
.SITUATION OVERVIEW...
HURRICANE ARTHUR WILL CONTINUE TO PUSH EAST OF THE NORTHERN OUTER
BANKS WITH GRADUALLY IMPROVING CONDITIONS THIS MORNING.
THE WIND THREAT WILL CONTINUE TO GRADUALLY DIMINISH FROM SOUTHWEST
TO NORTHEAST AS ARTHUR LIFTS ACROSS THE AREA WITH THE GREATEST
THREAT REMAINING EAST OF A COLUMBIA TO OCRACOKE LINE. DAMAGE TO
UN-ANCHORED MOBILE HOMES...PORCHES...CARPORTS...AND AWNINGS ALONG
WITH SOME DAMAGE TO SHINGLES AND SIDING CONTINUE TO BE A THREAT.
EXPECT LARGE BRANCHES BROKEN OFF TREES...WITH SEVERAL SHALLOW-
ROOTED AND DISEASED TREES BLOWN DOWN LEADING TO SCATTERED POWER
OUTAGE. UNSECURED LIGHT- WEIGHT OBJECTS WILL BE EASILY BLOWN
AROUND AND WILL BECOME DANGEROUS PROJECTILES. DANGEROUS DRIVING
CONDITIONS WILL OCCUR ON BRIDGES AND OTHER ELEVATED ROADWAYS...
ESPECIALLY FOR HIGH PROFILE VEHICLES. A FEW ROADS WILL BECOME
IMPASSABLE DUE TO LARGE DEBRIS.
ADDITIONAL RAINFALL AMOUNTS OF 1 TO 2 INCHES WILL BE POSSIBLE...
WITH GREATEST AMOUNTS ACROSS DARE AND HYDE COUNTIES. FLOODING OF
TYPICAL LOW LYING AND POOR DRAINAGE AREAS WILL CONTINUE TO BE
POSSIBLE THIS MORNING.
MODERATE TO HIGH WATER LEVEL RISES OF 3 TO 5 FEET...LOCALLY UP TO
6 FEET...ABOVE GROUND LEVEL CAN BE EXPECTED FOR AREAS ADJACENT TO
THE SOUNDS AND ALONG THE OCEANFRONT BEACHES. SIGNIFICANT WAVE
ACTION WILL ALSO PRODUCE INCREASED WATER LEVELS LEADING TO
OVERWASH ESPECIALLY ALONG VULNERABLE AREAS OF THE SOUND SIDE OUTER
BANKS AND ALONG THE EASTERN PORTIONS OF THE PAMLICO SOUND.
