THIS LOCAL STATEMENT PROVIDES IMPORTANT INFORMATION AND
RECOMMENDED ACTIONS FOR PEOPLE AND MARINE INTERESTS IN SELECT
LOCATIONS AND COASTAL WATER LEGS OF EAST CENTRAL FLORIDA AND
ATLANTIC WATERS.

.WATCHES/WARNINGS...
FOR MARINE INTERESTS...A TROPICAL STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT
FOR ALL OF THE EAST CENTRAL FLORIDA ATLANTIC WATERS FROM FLAGLER
BEACH TO JUPITER INLET OUT TO 60 NAUTICAL MILES.

FOR THE COASTAL COUNTIES OF MARTIN...SAINT LUCIE...INDIAN
RIVER...BREVARD...AND VOLUSIA...A WIND ADVISORY...A HIGH SURF
ADVISORY...AND A COASTAL FLOOD ADVISORY...ARE IN EFFECT THROUGH
THIS AFTERNOON.

.STORM INFORMATION...
AT 8 AM EDT...THE CENTER OF HURRICANE IRENE WAS LOCATED NEAR
LATITUDE 30.0 NORTH...LONGITUDE 77.3 WEST. THIS WAS ABOUT 220 MILES
EAST-NORTHEAST OF CAPE CANAVERAL FL...OR ABOUT 250 MILES NORTHEAST
OF FORT PIERCE FL. STORM MOTION WAS NORTH AT 14 MPH. MAXIMUM
SUSTAINED WINDS WERE 110 MPH. THE MINIMUM CENTRAL PRESSURE ESTIMATED
FROM HURRICANE HUNTER AIRCRAFT DATA IS 945 MB OR 27.91 INCHES.

.SITUATION OVERVIEW...
HURRICANE IRENE IS STEADILY MOVING NORTH TOWARD THE WATERS WELL
OFFSHORE NORTHEAST FLORIDA AS IT BEGINS TO EXIT THE AREA THIS
MORNING. HOWEVER...DUE TO THE SIZE OF IRENE AND THE EXTENT OF THE
WIND FIELD...TROPICAL STORM CONDITIONS OVER THE MARINE WATERS WILL
DIMINISH GRADUALLY.

THROUGH NOON...PERIODS OF SUSTAINED WINDS OF 30 TO 35 KNOTS WITH
HIGHER GUSTS WILL CONTINUE OVER THE WATERS OUT TO 20 NAUTICAL
MILES...WITH SUSTAINED WINDS 35 TO 40 KNOTS WITH HIGHER GUSTS FROM
20 TO 60 NAUTICAL MILES OFFSHORE. PERIODS OF TROPICAL STORM FORCE
WIND CONDITIONS WILL BECOME LESS FREQUENT SOUTH OF SEBASTIAN
INLET AS THE MORNING PROGRESSES. HIGHEST SEAS HAVE ALREADY PEAKED
BUT WILL STILL BE UP TO 15 TO 18 FEET WITHIN 20 NAUTICAL MILES OF
THE COAST...AND 20 TO 25 FEET BETWEEN 20 TO 60 NAUTICAL MILES.

OVER LAND AND NEAR THE COAST...RAIN SQUALLS WILL CONTINUE TO ROTATE
AROUND THE WESTERN FLANKS OF IRENE TO BRING LOCAL GUSTS OF 35 TO 45
MPH...ALONG WITH BRIEF PERIODS OF HEAVY RAIN MAINLY NORTH OF CAPE
CANAVERAL.

LATER TODAY...SUSTAINED WINDS WILL DIMINISH GRADUALLY FROM SOUTH TO
NORTH AS IRENE PULLS FURTHER AWAY. BY LATE AFTERNOON...THE TROPICAL
STORM WARNINGS OVER THE MARINE AREA WILL LIKELY BE DROPPED. SEAS
WILL BE SLOWER TO SUBSIDE. AFTER THE TROPICAL STORM WARNINGS ARE
DROPPED...SMALL CRAFT ADVISORIES WILL BE IN EFFECT.

FOR THE COASTAL COUNTIES...A HIGH SURF ADVISORY...COASTAL FLOOD
ADVISORY...AND WIND ADVISORY...WILL REMAIN IN EFFECT FOR MOST OF THE
DAY.

SUSTAINED TROPICAL STORM FORCE WINDS WILL CONTINUE OVER THE EAST
CENTRAL FLORIDA COASTAL WATERS THIS MORNING...ESPECIALLY FOR THE
WATERS NORTH OF SEBASTIAN INLET AND BEYOND 20 NAUTICAL MILES.

WIND GUSTS BETWEEN 30 TO 35 KNOTS HAVE BEEN REPORTED AT BUOY
41009 THIS MORNING. HIGHER GUSTS ARE LIKELY OCCURRING OVER THE
WATERS BEYOND 20 NAUTICAL MILES AS BUOY 41010 LOCATED
120 NAUTICAL MILES OFFSHORE CAPE CANAVERAL HAS BEEN REPORTING
WIND GUSTS OF 45 TO 55 KNOTS.

BUOYS 41114 AND 41113 LOCATED WITHIN 5 NAUTICAL MILES OF THE
COAST WERE REPORTING SEAS AROUND 6 TO 9 FEET...WHILE BUOY
41009 WAS REPORTING SEAS OF 14 TO 18 FEET. HIGHEST SEAS HAVE
ALREADY PEAKED AROUND 30 TO 35 FEET BEYOND 20 NAUTICAL MILES AND
18 TO 20 FEET CLOSER TO SHORE.

LATER TODAY...WINDS WILL DIMINISH GRADUALLY FROM SOUTH TO NORTH
AS IRENE PULLS AWAY. SEAS WILL BE SLOWER TO SUBSIDE.

TO 45 MPH...ESPECIALLY NEAR THE IMMEDIATE COAST FROM DAYTONA BEACH
AND FLAGLER BEACH SOUTHWARD TO CAPE CANAVERAL.

AS HURRICANE IRENE MOVES NORTH AND AWAY FROM EAST CENTRAL FLORIDA
AND THE ADJACENT COASTAL WATERS...THE PREVAILING WIND FLOW WILL
CONTINUE TO SHIFT FROM NORTH TO NORTHWEST THIS MORNING...AND
BECOME WEST OVER THE TREASURE COAST. PERIODS OF SUSTAINED WINDS
OF 20 TO 25 MPH AND GUSTY WILL OCCUR. AS A RESULT...A WIND
ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT. AREA WINDS WILL DIMINISH SOUTH TO NORTH AS
THE DAY PROGRESSES.

...STORM SURGE AND STORM TIDE...
HAZARDOUS SURF CONDITIONS WILL EXIST AT THE COAST TODAY...WITH
THE POTENTIAL FOR SIGNIFICANT BEACH EROSION AND LOCALIZED COASTAL
FLOODING IN VULNERABLE AREAS. THESE THREATS WILL BE HIGHEST
DURING THE NEXT FEW HIGH TIDE CYCLES...WHICH WILL BE AROUND 6 AM
AND 6 PM TODAY AND SATURDAY. A HIGH SURF AND COASTAL FLOOD
ADVISORY ARE IN EFFECT THROUGH THIS EVENING. AN EXTREME RIP
CURRENT THREAT IS EXPECTED TODAY.
