...TROPICAL STORM WARNING IN EFFECT FOR THE LOCAL COASTAL
WATERS...
.NEW INFORMATION...
HURRICANE IRENE IS FORECAST TO PASS BETWEEN 250 AND 275 MILES
EAST OF MAYPORT ON FRIDAY. THERE ARE NO SIGNIFICANT CHANGES TO
THE STORMS FORECAST TRACK OR INTENSITY AND NO DIRECT IMPACTS ARE
EXPECTED LOCALLY FROM THE HURRICANE. HOWEVER...IRENE IS A LARGE
STORM AND THERE IS A STRONG PRESSURE GRADIENT BETWEEN THE EDGE OF
THE HURRICANE AND HIGH PRESSURE OVER THE UNITED STATES.
THEREFORE...PRESSURE GRADIENT WINDS OVER PORTIONS OF THE NORTH
FLORIDA AND SOUTHEAST GEORGIA COASTAL WATERS WILL INCREASE TO
TROPICAL STORM INTENSITY ON FRIDAY.
AT THIS TIME...SUSTAINED TROPICAL STORM FORCE WINDS ARE NOT
EXPECTED OVER ANY LAND OR BEACH AREAS. SUSTAINED WINDS OF 20 TO
30 MPH WITH OCCASIONAL GUSTS TO NEAR 40 MPH CAN BE EXPECTED ALONG
THE IMMEDIATE BEACHES AND INTRACOASTAL WATERWAY ON FRIDAY.
