TROPICAL STORM FAY LOCAL STATEMENT

...ALL TROPICAL STORM FAY RELATED WARNINGS REMAINING FOR PORTIONS
OF SOUTH FLORIDA CANCELED AT THIS TIME...

.AT 1100 PM EDT THE CENTER OF TROPICAL STORM FAY WAS LOCATED NEAR
LATITUDE 27.7 NORTH, LONGITUDE 80.7 WEST OR ABOUT 30 MILES SOUTH
SOUTHWEST OF MELBOURNE FLORIDA.

FAY HAS BEEN MOVING ERRATICALLY OVER THE PAST FEW HOURS BUT IS
EXPECTED TO MOVE TOWARD THE NORTH-NORTHEAST NEAR 5 MPH OVERNIGHT.
A GRADUAL TURN TOWARD THE NORTH IS EXPECTED DURING THE NEXT 12 TO
24 HOURS. ON THIS TRACK, THE CENTER OF FAY WILL MOVE JUST OFFSHORE
OVER THE ATLANTIC WATERS ON WEDNESDAY. FAY IS LIKELY TO REMAIN
NEAR OR OVER THE NORTHEAST OR EAST-CENTRAL FLORIDA COAST THROUGH
THURSDAY.

SURFACE OBSERVATIONS AND NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR DATA
INDICATE THAT THE MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS HAVE DECREASED TO NEAR 50
MPH WITH HIGHER GUSTS. SOME FURTHER WEAKENING IS EXPECTED OVERNIGHT
BUT FAY WILL LIKELY BEGIN TO RESTRENGTHEN WHEN IT MOVES OVER THE
ATLANTIC WATERS ON WEDNESDAY.

WHILE WINDS SUBSIDE.

AS OF 1 AM, SUSTAINED WINDS ACROSS THE LAKE HAD DROPPED TO THE 20
TO 25 KNOTS RANGE WITH HIGHER GUSTS. THESE WINDS ARE EXPECTED TO
GRADUALLY CONTINUE TO SUBSIDE THE REST OF TONIGHT. THEREFORE, THE
TROPICAL STORM WARNING HAS BEEN REPLACED WITH A SMALL CRAFT
ADVISORY AT THIS TIME.

THIS STATEMENT APPLIES TO THE FOLLOWING COUNTIES: GLADES, INLAND
PALM BEACH.

AS OF 1 AM, WINDS ACROSS THE AREA HAD SUBSIDED TO THE 15 TO 25 MPH
RANGE WITH HIGHER GUSTS. THEREFORE THE TROPICAL STORM WIND
WARNING HAS BEEN CANCELED. WINDY CONDITIONS WILL PREVAIL A LITTLE
LONGER THIS MORNING WHILE WINDS SUBSIDE THROUGH THE NEXT FEW
HOURS.

...INLAND FLOODING...

RAIN BANDS HAVE FINALLY LIFTED JUST NORTH OF THE AREA. DESPITE
THIS, AND DUE TO THE HEAVY RAIN AMOUNTS THAT HAVE BEEN OBSERVED
ACROSS GLADES COUNTY SINCE MONDAY, WATER IN SOME AREAS OF THE
COUNTY HAS CONTINUED TO RISE. LATEST REPORTS INDICATED THERE WERE
STILL SOME ROADS CLOSED NEAR THE TOWN OF MUSE IN GLADES COUNTY.
ADDITIONALLY, NEAR MUSE AND PALMDALE HOMES WERE BEING THREATEN BY
RISING WATER. WATER IS NOW STARTING TO COVER PARTS OF HIGHWAY 29,
74, AND 78 IN GLADES COUNTY. THEREFORE A FLOOD WARNING WILL
REMAIN IN EFFECT THROUGH THE MORNING HOURS UNTIL WATERS STOP
RISING AND BEGIN TO SUBSIDE AGAIN.
