SURFACE OBSERVATIONS AND NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR DATA
INDICATE THAT THE MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS HAVE DECREASED TO NEAR 60
MPH WITH HIGHER GUSTS. SOME FURTHER WEAKENING IS EXPECTED OVERNIGHT
BUT FAY WILL LIKELY BEGIN TO RESTRENGTHEN WHEN IT MOVES OVER THE

LAKE OKEECHOBEE-
927 PM EDT TUE AUG 19 2008
...TROPICAL STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT...
...NEW INFORMATION...
MARINE IMPACTS UPDATED.
TORNADO IMPACT UPDATED.
...AREAS AFFECTED...
THIS STATEMENT RECOMMENDS ACTIONS TO BE TAKEN BY PERSONS IN THE
FOLLOWING COUNTIES OR MARINE AREAS: LAKE OKEECHOBEE.
...WATCHES/WARNINGS...
THE FOLLOWING WATCHES AND WARNINGS ARE CURRENTLY IN EFFECT FOR
THIS AREA: TROPICAL STORM WARNING.
...PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
ALL MARINE CRAFT SHOULD REMAIN IN SAFE PORT TONIGHT.
...STORM SURGE AND STORM TIDE...
AS THE CENTER OF FAY CONTINUES TO MOVE AWAY FROM THE AREA, WINDS
WILL GRADUALLY CONTINUE TO SUBSIDE. HOWEVER, THE STRONG SOUTHWEST
WINDS WILL CAUSE WATER TO PILE UP MAINLY ON THE NORTH AND
NORTHEASTERN SHORES. THE WINDS WILL GRADUALLY SHIFT FROM THE WEST
SOUTHWEST LATER TONIGHT CAUSING WATER TO PILE MORE ON THE EASTERN
SHORE. HOWEVER, GIVEN CURRENT LAKE LEVELS ARE WELL BELOW NORMAL,
THIS IS NOT EXPECTED TO CAUSE ANY SURGE PROBLEMS.
...TORNADOES...
WITH FAY NOW WELL NORTH OF THE AREA THE TORNADO THREAT IS MINIMAL.
...LOCAL MARINE IMPACTS...
AS OF 9 PM, SUSTAINED WINDS ACROSS THE LAKE WERE RUNNING IN THE 35
TO 40 KNOTS RANGE WITH GUSTS CLOSE TO 50 KNOTS. THESE WINDS WILL
GRADUALLY CONTINUE TO SUBSIDE DURING THE OVERNIGHT DROPPING BELOW
TROPICAL STORM FORCE SHORTLY BEFORE OR AROUND MIDNIGHT.
...NEXT UPDATE...

GLADES-HENDRY-INLAND PALM BEACH-
927 PM EDT TUE AUG 19 2008
...TROPICAL STORM WIND WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT...
...NEW INFORMATION...
FLOOD WATCH ALLOWED TO EXPIRE.
INLAND FLOODING UPDATED.
...AREAS AFFECTED...
THIS STATEMENT RECOMMENDS ACTIONS TO BE TAKEN BY PERSONS IN THE
FOLLOWING COUNTIES: GLADES, HENDRY, AND INLAND PALM BEACH.
...WATCHES/WARNINGS...
THE FOLLOWING WATCHES AND WARNINGS ARE CURRENTLY IN EFFECT FOR
THIS AREA: TROPICAL STORM WIND WARNING.
...PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
THE CENTER OF TROPICAL STORM FAY CONTINUES TO MOVE NORTH AWAY FROM
THE AREA. RESIDENTS SHOULD REMAIN INDOORS AS TROPICAL STORM FORCE
WINDS, MAINLY IN SQUALLS, WILL CONTINUE TO AFFECT THE AREA INTO
THE LATE EVENING HOURS. STAY AWAY FROM DOWNED POWER LINES. IF
POWER OUTAGES OCCUR AND A GENERATOR IS USED, ENSURE ADEQUATE
VENTILATION TO PREVENT CARBON MONOXIDE POISONING.
...STORM SURGE AND STORM TIDE...
AS THE CENTER OF FAY CONTINUES TO MOVE AWAY FROM THE AREA, WINDS
WILL GRADUALLY CONTINUE TO SUBSIDE. HOWEVER, THE STRONG SOUTHWEST
WINDS WILL CAUSE WATER TO PILE UP MAINLY ON THE NORTH AND
NORTHEASTERN SHORES OF LAKE OKEECHOBEE. THE WINDS WILL GRADUALLY SHIFT
FROM THE WEST SOUTHWEST LATER TONIGHT CAUSING WATER TO PILE MORE
ON THE EASTERN SHORE. HOWEVER, GIVEN CURRENT LAKE LEVELS ARE WELL
BELOW NORMAL, THIS IS NOT EXPECTED TO CAUSE ANY SURGE PROBLEMS.
...WINDS...
AS OF 9 PM, WINDS ACROSS THE AREA WERE RUNNING IN THE 25 MPH TO 30
MPH RANGE WITH GUSTS OF 35 TO 45 MPH. THESE WINDS WILL GRADUALLY
CONTINUE TO IMPROVE AS THE CENTER OF FAY MOVES AWAY FROM THE AREA.
...INLAND FLOODING...
TOTAL RAINFALL AMOUNTS SINCE MONDAY SO FAR HAVE AVERAGED 4 TO 8
INCHES WITH LOCAL AMOUNTS CLOSE TO OR IN EXCESS OF 10 INCHES
PARTICULARLY ACROSS PORTIONS OF GLADES AND HENDRY COUNTIES.
ADDITIONAL HEAVY RAINFALL AMOUNTS ARE POSSIBLE ACROSS THE AREA AS
SPIRAL BANDS ROTATES ACROSS THE REGION ON THE SOUTH SIDE OF FAY
THROUGH THE LATE EVENING HOURS BUT THE RAIN THREAT IS NOW
BEGINNING TO SUBSIDE. HOWEVER, UNTIL THE RAIN BANDS CLEAR THE AREA,
THE FLOOD THREAT WILL CONTINUE PARTICULARLY ACROSS GLADES COUNTY.
LATEST REPORTS INDICATED THERE WERE STILL SOME ROADS CLOSED NEAR
THE TOWN OF MUSE IN GLADES COUNTY. ADDITIONALLY, NEAR MUSE AND
PALMDALE HOMES WERE BEING THREATEN BY RISING WATER. WATER IS NOW
STARTING TO COVER PARTS OF HIGHWAY 29, 74, AND 78 IN GLADES COUNTY.
THEREFORE A FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT THROUGH MIDNIGHT FOR
GLADES. HOWEVER, GIVEN THAT OVERALL THE FLOOD THREAT WILL
CONTINUE TO SUBSIDE FROM THIS POINT, AND THAT THERE IS ALREADY A
FLOOD WARNING IN EFFECT FOR THE COUNTY, THE FLOOD WATCH THAT WAS
IN EFFECT EARLIER FOR THE ENTIRE AREA OF GLADES, HENDRY, AND
INLAND PALM BEACH COUNTIES HAS BEEN ALLOWED TO EXPIRE.
...TORNADOES...
WITH FAY NOW NORTH OF THE AREA THE TORNADO THREAT IS MINIMAL.
...NEXT UPDATE...
THIS STATEMENT WILL BE UPDATED NEXT AROUND MIDNIGHT.
