27.0 NORTH...LONGITUDE 78.2 WEST OR ABOUT 280 MILES EAST SOUTHEAST
OF TAMPA. THIS IS ALSO 145 MILES OFFSHORE OF EAST SOUTHEAST OF VERO
BEACH. JEANNE IS MOVING A LITTLE NORTH OF DUE WEST AT 14 MPH...AND
THIS GENERAL MOTION IS EXPECTED TO CONTINUE FOR THE NEXT 12 HOURS.
BEYOND THAT TIME FRAME A TURN TO THE NORTHWEST AND THEN NORTH IS
EXPECTED. HURRICANE HUNTER AIRCRAFT INDICATE MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS
ARE 115 MPH WITH HIGHER GUSTS. ADDITIONAL STRENGTHENING IS FORECAST
DURING THE NEXT 24 HOURS.
...CURRENT RADAR INFORMATION...
HEAVY RAINBANDS FROM JEANNE ARE MOVING ASHORE ALONG THE SOUTHEAST
FLORIDA COAST. SOME WEAKER SHOWERS ARE FORMING ALONG A NEW OUTER BAND
FROM AROUND SARASOTA NORTHEAST TO OCALA.
...WIND IMPACTS...
HURRICANE JEANNE IS FORECAST TO MOVE TO JUST NORTHEAST OF LAKE
OKEECHOBEE LATE TONIGHT...THEN INTO NORTH CENTRAL FLORIDA BY SUNDAY
AFTERNOON. HURRICANE FORCE WINDS ARE POSSIBLE IN HIGHLANDS COUNTY BY
3 AM TONIGHT...WITH THE WINDS SPREADING NORTHWARD THROUGH POLK...
HARDEE...AND THEN INTO SUMTER COUNTY BY DAYBREAK. TROPICAL STORM
FORCE WINDS ARE EXPECTED TO SPREAD NORTH ALONG THE GULF COAST
BEGINNING LATE TONIGHT IN LEE COUNTY AND WILL REACH LEVY COUNTY BY
LATE MORNING. HURRICANE FORCE WINDS ARE ALSO POSSIBLE IN THE COASTAL
COUNTIES ALONG THE WATCH AREA FROM ENGLEWOOD NORTH TO SUWANNEE RIVER.
MOBILE HOMES IN THE DIRECT PATH OF THE STORM WILL EXPERIENCE MODERATE
TO SEVERE DAMAGE. IN ADDITION...HOUSES OF POOR TO AVERAGE
CONSTRUCTION WILL HAVE PARTIAL WALL AND ROOF FAILURE AS WELL AS BLOWN
OUT WINDOWS. MOST LANAI SCREENS AND POOL CAGES WILL BE DAMAGED...SOME
DESTROYED. UNFASTENED HOME ITEMS OF LIGHT TO MODERATE WEIGHT WILL
BECOME PROJECTILES...CAUSING ADDITIONAL DAMAGE AND POSSIBLE INJURY.
MANY AREAS WILL HAVE POWER OUTAGES...HUNDREDS OF WIRES WILL
FALL...TRANSFORMERS WILL POP...AND SOME POWER POLES WILL BE PULLED
DOWN. ROTTING LARGE TREES WILL BE UPROOTED...MOST COMMON ON SATURATED
GROUNDS. NUMEROUS LARGE BRANCHES OF HEALTHY TREES WILL SNAP.
A MUCH LARGER AREA WILL BE EXPERIENCING TROPICAL STORM WINDS WITH
GUSTS TO HURRICANE FORCE. IN THESE AREAS...EXPECT SCATTERED LARGE
TREES TO FALL...LARGE DEBRIS BLOCKING ROADWAYS...AND KNOCKED DOWN
POWER LINES. ALSO...SOME STRUCTURAL DAMAGE IS POSSIBLE. THERE IS
STILL CONSIDERABLE UNCERTAINTY IN WHICH AREA WILL BEAR THE BRUNT OF
THE WIND DAMAGE FROM JEANNE. BE PREPARED!
...STORM SURGE FLOOD AND STORM TIDE IMPACTS...
AS JEANNE MOVES NORTH NORTHWESTWARD SUNDAY...WINDS WILL BECOME
ONSHORE AND BEGIN TO RAISE WATER LEVELS 3 TO 6 FEET ABOVE NORMAL
NORTH OF TAMPA BAY...AND 1 TO 3 FEET ELSEWHERE.
...FLOOD IMPACTS...
THE CURRENT FORECAST MOVEMENT OF JEANNE WILL KEEP THE HEAVIEST
RAINFALL OF 6 TO 10 INCHES OVER CENTRAL AND EASTERN PARTS OF
FLORIDA...INCLUDING HIGHLANDS...POLK AND SUMTER COUNTIES. THE
HEAVIEST AND MOST CONTINUOUS RAINS WILL BE FROM AFTER MIDNIGHT
THROUGH SUNDAY AFTERNOON...EXCEPT IN THE NATURE COAST COUNTIES WHERE
RAIN WILL CONTINUE THROUGH SUNDAY NIGHT. RAINFALL AMOUNTS OF 3 TO 6
INCHES ARE POSSIBLE IN THE COASTAL COUNTIES.
A FLOOD WATCH IS IN EFFECT FOR THE AREA. IN POOR DRAINAGE AREAS...
SOME PROPERTY DAMAGE IS POSSIBLE...AND SOME MAIN THOROUGHFARES MAY BE
CLOSED. SOME SMALL STREAMS AND CREEKS WILL SURPASS BANK FULL. LARGER
RIVERS WILL RISE. SEVERAL AREA RIVERS ARE ALREADY ABOVE FLOOD STAGE.
RESIDENTS WHO LIVE NEAR RIVERS SHOULD PREPARE FOR MODERATE TO MAJOR
FLOODING.
...MARINE IMPACTS...
WINDS AND SEAS WILL INCREASE OVER THE GULF MAKING CONDITIONS
HAZARDOUS LATER THIS AFTERNOON THROUGH SUNDAY.
...TORNADO IMPACTS...
THE PRIMARY AREA FOR TORNADO DEVELOPMENT IN TROPICAL SYSTEMS IS THE
RIGHT FRONT QUADRANT OF THE STORM. AS JEANNE MOVES NORTHWESTWARD
OVER THE PENINSULA...THAT PART OF THE STORM WILL AFFECT FLORIDA'S
EAST COAST AND THEREFORE THE TORNADO THREAT IS LESSENED FOR WEST
CENTRAL AND SOUTHWEST FLORIDA.
...SHELTER AND ROAD STATUS...
PLEASE CONTACT YOUR LOCAL COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT FOR SHELTER AND
ROAD STATUS
