THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER TO MORGAN CITY...

THIS STATEMENT IS PRIMARILY FOR FOLLOWING PARISHES IN SOUTHEAST
LOUISIANA...LOWER PLAQUEMINES...LOWER JEFFERSON...LAFOURCHE AND
TERREBONNE AND ASSUMPTION.
...WATCHES AND WARNINGS...
THE TROPICAL STORM WARNING THAT WAS IN EFFECT FOR SOUTHEAST LOUISIANA
COASTAL AREAS FROM THE MOUTH OF THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER WESTWARD
INCLUDING GRAND ISLE HAS BEEN DISCONTINUED.
...STORM INFORMATION SUMMARY...
AT 1000 AM CDT...TROPICAL STORM IVAN WAS LOCATED AT 29.2 NORTH
AND 92.7 WEST OR ABOUT 120 WEST WEST SOUTHWEST OF HOUMA. IVAN IS
MOVING TOWARD THE NORTHWEST NEAR 15 MPH.
MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS ARE NEAR 60 MPH WITH HIGHER GUSTS. SOME
FLUCTUATION IN INTENSITY IS FORECAST UNTIL LANDFALL.
...PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
WHILE THE TROPICAL STORM WARNING HAS BEEN DISCONTINUED IN
COASTAL SOUTHEAST LOUISIANA...RESIDENTS CAN EXPECT OCCASIONAL SQUALLS
WILL PRODUCE WIND GUSTS OF 30 TO 35 MPH...AND PERIODS OF HEAVY RAIN.
ALSO TIDES WILL REMAIN ELEVATED THE REMAINDER OF THE DAY INTO
TONIGHT.
...STORM SURGE FLOOD AND STORM TIDE IMPACTS...
TIDES ARE CURRENTLY AROUND 2 FEET ABOVE NORMAL IN THE COASTAL AREAS
WEST OF THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER. TIDES WILL REMAIN AT ELEVATED LEVELS
OF 1 TO 3 FEET ABOVE NORMAL THROUGH MUCH OF TODAY AND THIS EVENING.
ABOVE NORMAL TIDE LEVELS MAY RESULT IN MINOR FLOODING OF LOW
LYING ROADWAYS AND PROPERTY.
...WIND IMPACTS....
EAST WINDS OF 20 TO 25 MILES AN HOUR WILL CONTINUE ACROSS THE
COASTAL AREAS TODAY AND GRADUALLY BECOME SOUTHEAST LATE THIS
AFTERNOON AND TONIGHT. HIGHER GUSTS OF 30 TO 40 MPH MAY OCCUR IN
SQUALLS THAT IMPACT THE COASTAL AREAS.

RADAR SHOWED RAIN AND OCCASIONAL SQUALLS EXTENDING FROM THE
MOUTH OF THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER WEST TO LOWER TERREBONNE PARISH.
RAINFALL OF 3 TO 5 INCHES IS POSSIBLE TODAY. FLOODING OF LOW LYING
AREAS AND ROADWAYS MAY OCCUR DUE TO THE HEAVY RAINFALL. A FLOOD WATCH
REMAIN IN EFFECT.

THERE IS A RISK OF ISOLATED TORNADOES ALONG THE COASTAL AREAS
TODAY AS RAINBANDS ASSOCIATED WITH IVAN MOVE ONSHORE.
