A HURRICANE WARNING IS IN EFFECT FOR THE ENTIRE MISSISSIPPI GULF
COAST AND ALONG THE LOUISIANA COAST FROM GRAND ISLE EASTWARD
INCLUDING LAKE PONTCHARTRAIN. THIS INCLUDES THE GREATER NEW ORLEANS
AREA AND THE CITIES OF BILOXI AND GULFPORT.

A HURRICANE WATCH AND TROPICAL STORM WARNING IS IN EFFECT FOR
SOUTHEAST LOUISIANA FROM WEST OF GRAND ISLE WESTWARD TO MORGAN CITY
LOUISIANA. THIS INCLUDES THE GREATER BATON ROUGE AREA AND THE
PARISHES AROUND LAKE MAUREPAS.

...STORM INFORMATION SUMMARY...
AT 100 PM CDT...HURRICANE IVAN WAS LOCATED AT 27.8 NORTH AND
88.2 WEST...ABOUT 195 MILES SOUTH SOUTHEAST OF GULFPORT OR 170
MILES SOUTH OF THE ALABAMA COASTLINE. IVAN IS MOVING TOWARD THE NORTH
AT 13 MILES AN HOUR.  ON THE FORECAST TRACK...THE CENTER OF IVAN IS
EXPECTED TO REACH THE COAST DURING THE VERY EARLY MORNING HOURS ON
THURSDAY.

MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS ARE NEAR 135 MILES AN HOUR WITH HIGHER
GUSTS. IVAN REMAINS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS CATEGORY FOUR HURRICANE.
FLUCTUATIONS IN INTENSITY ARE COMMON IN MAJOR HURRICANES AND ARE
EXPECTED OVER THE NEXT 24 HOURS. IVAN IS EXPECTED TO MAKE LANDFALL AS
A MAJOR HURRICANE...AT LEAST A CATEGORY THREE.

...PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
SEVERAL PARISHES HAVE ISSUED EVACUATION ORDERS IN SOUTHEAST LOUISIANA
INCLUDING ORLEANS...JEFFERSON...ST BERNARD...PLAQUEMINES AND ST
CHARLES. RESIDENTS SHOULD MONITOR LOCAL MEDIA FOR EVACUATION ORDERS
FROM LOCAL EMERGENCY AGENCIES.

IN COASTAL MISSISSIPPI...LOCAL GOVERNMENTS IN HARRISON...HANCOCK AND
JACKSON COUNTIES HAVE ISSUED MANDATORY EVACUATIONS IN COASTAL
AND LOW LYING AREAS. PLEASE LISTEN TO LOCAL MEDIA AND CONSULT
LOCAL COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCIES FOR ADDITIONAL DETAILS.

A HURRICANE WARNING MEANS HURRICANE CONDITIONS ARE LIKELY WITHIN 24
HOURS. RESIDENTS OF SOUTHEAST LOUISIANA IN THE HURRICANE WARNING AND
ALL OF COASTAL MISSISSIPPI SHOULD RUSH TO COMPLETION PREPARATIONS FOR
THE LIKELIHOOD OF HURRICANE CONDITIONS.

PERSONS IN MOBILE HOMES SHOULD SEEK SAFE SHELTER IN A STURDY
BUILDING. ALL OUTDOOR OBJECTS THAT COULD BECOME AIRBORNE AND BE BLOWN
ABOUT BY THE WIND SHOULD BE SECURED. RESIDENTS SHOULD FOLLOW
EVACUATION RECOMMENDATIONS GIVEN BY LOCAL AND STATE GOVERNMENT
OFFICIALS.

...STORM SURGE FLOOD AND STORM TIDE IMPACTS...
TIDES ARE CURRENTLY ARE 2 TO 5 FEET ABOVE NORMAL ACROSS SOUTHEAST
LOUISIANA...LAKE PONTCHARTRAIN AND COASTAL MISSISSIPPI. TIDES ARE
EXPECTED TO BEGIN RAPIDLY RISING ALONG THE MISSISSIPPI COAST AND
EAST SHORES OF ORLEANS..ST BERNARD AND PLAQUEMINES PARISHES.
INUNDATION OF LOW LYING COASTAL AREAS AND AREAS OUTSIDE THE HURRICANE
PROTECTION LEVEES WILL OCCUR LATE THIS AFTERNOON AND TONIGHT. SOME
STORM SURGE FLOODING IS EXPECTED ALONG LAKE PONTCHARTRAIN TONIGHT
THROUGH THURSDAY.

EXTREME STORM SURGE VALUES OF 10 TO 16 FEET AND LOCALLY HIGHER...
ABOVE NORMAL TIDE LEVELS WILL OCCUR NEAR AND TO THE EAST OF WHERE THE
HURRICANE MAKES LANDFALL...WITH THE HIGHEST THREAT FROM SOUTHEAST
MISSISSIPPI EASTWARD.  SOMEWHAT LOWER STORM SURGES WILL OCCUR TO THE
WEST OF WHERE THE HURRICANE MAKES LANDFALL...RESULTING IN STORM SURGE
FLOODING IN LOW LYING COASTAL AREAS...INCLUDING LAKE PONTCHARTRAIN.

...WIND IMPACTS....
EAST TO NORTHEAST WIND OF 25 TO 35 MPH HAVE SPREAD INLAND ACROSS
SOUTHEAST LOUISIANA AND COASTAL MISSISSIPPI...WITH STRONGER GUSTS.
THESE STRONGER WINDS WILL SPREAD INLAND THIS EVENING. WIND GUSTS
NEAR 45 MPH HAVE BEEN RECORDED AT BOOTHEVILLE EARLY THIS AFTERNOON.

HURRICANE FORCE WINDS...WINDS IN EXCESS 74 MPH...WILL OVERSPREAD
COASTAL MISSISSIPPI THIS EVENING AND TONIGHT. HURRICANE FORCE
WINDS WILL LIKELY AFFECT THE COASTAL AREAS OF SOUTHEAST LOUISIANA
FROM THE NEW ORLEANS METRO AREA THROUGH PLAQUEMINES PARISH...
THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING.

EXTREME WIND GUSTS OF 100 TO 125 MPH ARE LIKELY NEAR WHERE
HURRICANE IVAN MAKES LANDFALL...WITH THE HIGHER THREAT ALONG THE
MISSISSIPPI COASTAL AREAS.

...HEAVY RAINFALL...
RAINBANDS WITH HEAVY RAIN HAVE SPREAD INTO COASTAL MISSISSIPPI AND
EXTREME SOUTHEAST LOUISIANA EARLY THIS AFTERNOON. THE RAINBANDS AND
HEAVY RAIN WILL SPREAD INLAND THE REMAINDER OF THE AFTERNOON AND
CONTINUE THROUGH THURSDAY. STORM TOTAL AMOUNTS OF 5 TO 10 INCHES ARE
LIKELY OVER SOUTHEAST LOUISIANA...AND 10 TO 15 INCHES ARE EXPECTED
OVER COASTAL MISSISSIPPI. RIVER FLOODING MAY DEVELOP FROM THE HEAVY
RAIN.

...TORNADOES...
ISOLATED TORNADOES ARE POSSIBLE LATER TODAY AS HURRICANE IVAN
APPROACHES THE COAST. THE MOSTLY LIKELY THREAT WILL BE ALONG
THE MISSISSIPPI COAST AND COASTAL AREAS EAST AND SOUTHEAST OF NEW
ORLEANS.
