AT 500 PM EDT...THE CENTER OF HURRICANE IVAN WAS LOCATED NEAR
LATITUDE 21.3 NORTH...LONGITUDE 84.9 WEST...OR ABOUT 30 MILES SOUTH
OF THE WESTERN TIP OF CUBA. THIS IS ABOUT 290 MILES SOUTH SOUTHWEST
OF KEY WEST. MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS WERE NEAR 160 MPH...WITH HIGHER
GUSTS. THIS MAKES IVAN AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS CATEGORY FIVE
HURRICANE ON THE SAFFIR-SIMPSON SCALE. SOME FLUCTUATIONS IN
INTENSITY ARE LIKELY DURING THE NEXT 24 HOURS. IVAN WAS MOVING
TOWARD THE NORTH NORTHWEST NEAR 9 MPH. THIS GENERAL MOTION IS
EXPECTED TO CONTINUE FOR THE NEXT 24 HOURS. MINIMUM CENTRAL PRESSURE
WAS MEASURED AT 912 MB...OR 26.93 INCHES OF MERCURY.
...MARINE IMPACTS...
SEAS ARE EXPECTED TO BUILD TO SEVEN TO TEN FEET OUTSIDE THE REEF
AND TWO TO FOUR FEET INSIDE THE REEF THIS EVENING. MARINERS SHOULD
MONITOR KEY WEST NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE MARINE FORECASTS FOR
FURTHER UPDATES. THE BRIDGES AT SNAKE CREEK AND JEWFISH CREEK WILL
BE LOCKED IN THE DOWN POSITION...AND THUS CLOSED TO MARINE VESSEL
TRAFFIC UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.

FOR THE LOWER AND MIDDLE KEYS...SUSTAINED WINDS NEAR 20 MPH WITH
GUSTS TO 40 MPH IN OCCASIONAL SQUALLS CAN BE EXPECTED OVERNIGHT AND
TUESDAY.
...STORM SURGE FLOOD AND STORM TIDE IMPACTS...
NO SIGNIFICANT STORM SURGE IS EXPECTED IN THE KEYS WITH THE PASSAGE
OF HURRICANE IVAN. HOWEVER...HIGH TIDES IN THE LOWER KEYS COULD RUN
AROUND ONE FOOT ABOVE NORMAL TODAY AND TONIGHT. THE NEXT HIGH TIDE
IN KEY WEST HARBOR WILL OCCUR AT 1031 PM THIS EVENING.

THE SEVEN MILE BRIDGE WESTWARD TO THE DRY TORTUGAS.
