AND THE TIDAL POTOMAC RIVER AND ADJACENT COUNTIES. A FLOOD WATCH IS
ALSO IN EFFECT FOR NORTHERN VIRGINIA...THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA...
AND MARYLAND EAST OF THE BLUE RIDGE.

AT 5 PM EDT THE CENTER OF TROPICAL STORM CHARLEY WAS LOCATED NEAR
36.0 NORTH LATITUDE AND 77.0 WEST LONGITUDE...OR OVER NORTHEAST
NORTH CAROLINA ABOUT 75 MILES SOUTH SOUTHWEST OR NORFOLK VIRGINIA.
MINIMUM CENTRAL PRESSURE IS 1000 MB WITH MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS OF
70 MPH.

PERSONS LOCATED IN AND NEAR THE WARNING AREA SHOULD PREPARE FOR HIGH
WINDS AND POSSIBLE COASTAL FLOODING. ALWAYS FOLLOW THE ADVICE OF

...STORM SURGE FLOOD AND STORM TIDE IMPACTS...
THE THREAT OF STORM SURGE WILL BE ON THE INCREASE TONIGHT AS TIDAL
SURGES REACH 2 TO 3 FEET ABOVE NORMAL. THE STORM SURGE WILL BE IN
ADDITION TO THE ASTRONOMICAL HIGH TIDE WHICH WILL OCCUR 8:18 PM THIS
EVENING AT WASHINGTON DC. HIGH TIDE AT BALTIMORE WILL BE AT 6:39 PM
THIS EVENING AND 7:10 AM SUNDAY. AREAS THAT HAVE AN ELEVATION OF
AROUND 4 FEET OR LESS ABOVE MEAN SEA LEVEL COULD EXPERIENCE
INUNDATION DUE TO CHARLEYS STORM SURGE.

TROPICAL STORM FORCE WIND GUSTS OF 35 TO 45 MPH WILL AFFECT LOWER
SOUTHERN MARYLAND THIS EVENING INTO THE EARLY OVERNIGHT PERIOD.
WINDS FURTHER WEST ACROSS THE BALTIMORE AND WASHINGTON METROPOLITAN
AREAS COULD GUST TO 40 MPH IN HEAVIER SQUALLS THIS EVENING. WINDS
WILL BEGIN THE EVENING EAST TO NORTHEAST...THEN SHIFT TO NORTHWEST
AS THE CENTER MOVES EAST OF THE BAY. SOME OF THE STRONGEST WINDS
WILL OCCUR AS WINDS SHIFT INTO THE NORTHWEST AS THE STORM IS PASSING
EAST OF THE AREA.

ISOLATED TORNADOES ARE POSSIBLE THIS EVENING OVER LOWER SOUTHERN
MARYLAND.
...RAINFALL IMPACTS...
SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS PRODUCING HEAVY RAINFALL WILL AFFECT THE
REGION THROUGH EARLY SUNDAY MORNING. RAINFALL AMOUNTS OF 2 TO 4
INCHES WILL BE POSSIBLE EAST OF THE BLUE RIDGE. ISOLATED HIGHER
TOTALS ARE POSSIBLE IN HEAVIER SQUALLS.

AS WINDS INCREASE THIS EVENING...WAVES WILL INCREASE TO NEAR 5 FEET
ON THE CHESAPEAKE BAY. MARINERS SHOULD REMAIN IN PORT TODAY AND
TONIGHT.
THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE ADVISES RESIDENTS IN THE AFFECTED AREA
TO CONTINUE MONITORING NOAA WEATHER RADIO AND THE MEDIA FOR UPDATES
ON TROPICAL STORM CHARLEY.
THE NEXT SCHEDULED LOCAL STATEMENT WILL BE ISSUED BY MIDNIGHT UNLESS
CONDITIONS WARRANT EARLIER RELEASES.
