THIS STATEMENT APPLIES TO PERSONS IN COLLIER, HENDRY, GLADES,
MAINLAND MONROE, PALM BEACH, BROWARD, AND MIAMI-DADE COUNTIES.
...STORM INFORMATION...
AT 9 PM EDT...THE CENTER OF HURRICANE CHARLEY WAS LOCATED NEAR
LATITUDE 28.4 NORTH...LONGITUDE 81.4 WEST OR ABOUT 15 MILES SOUTH
SOUTHWEST OF ORLANDO. CHARLEY IS MOVING TOWARD THE NORTH NORTHEAST
NEAR 25 MPH AND A GRADUAL INCREASE IN FORWARD SPEED IS EXPECTED
TONIGHT AND SATURDAY. MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS HAVE DECREASED TO NEAR
90 MPH. FURTHER WEAKENING IS FORECAST DURING THE NEXT 24 HOURS.

WHEN VENTURING OUTDOORS. THE COLLIER COUNTY INFORMATION LINE FOR RUMOR
CONTROL...DAMAGE REPORTS AND INFORMATION IS 239.774.8444.
...STORM SURGE FLOOD AND STORM TIDE IMPACTS...
THE STORM TIDE ALONG THE GULF OF MEXICO COAST AND ITS TIDAL ESTUARIES
HAVE CONTINUED TO RECEDE.
THE WATER IN LAKE OKEECHOBEE WILL SLOSH BACK AND FORTH BETWEEN SHORES
FOR MUCH OF THE REMAINDER OF TONIGHT...RESULTING IN WATER LEVELS AS
MUCH AS 4 FEET HIGHER ALONG THESE SHORES. THE LAKE LEVEL THURSDAY
MORNING WAS ABOUT 12.6 FEET ABOVE MEAN SEA LEVEL...SO LAKE ELEVATIONS
ALONG THE NORTHWEST AND SOUTHEAST SHORES COULD REACH AS HIGH AS 17 FEET
TONIGHT. ALTHOUGH THE HOOVER DIKE EXTENDS ALMOST ALL THE WAY AROUND
LAKE OKEECHOBEE...BACKWATER MAY BE PUSHED WEST INTO THE FISHEATING
CREEK BASIN RESULTING IN SOME MINOR FLOODING ALONG THE MOUTH OF THE CREEK
PARTICULARLY TOWARDS SATURDAY.
...WIND IMPACTS...
AT 9 PM THE WINDS WERE GENERALLY BELOW 15 MPH ACROSS MUCH OF SOUTH FLORIDA.
THEREFORE...NO WIND IMPACTS ACROSS SOUTH FLORIDA ARE EXPECTED FROM HURRICANE
CHARLEY ANY LONGER.
...LOCAL MARINE IMPACTS...
AT LAKE OKEECHOBEE SUSTAINED WINDS HAD FALLEN BELOW TROPICAL STORM STRENGTH
AND THEREFORE THE WARNING IS DISCONTINUED FOR THE LAKE. SMALL CRAFT ADVISORIES
ARE NOW IN PLACE FOR THE ATLANTIC...GULF AND LAKE OKEECHOBEE WATERS.
...LOCAL FLOOD IMPACTS...
AT 9 PM RADAR INDICATED THAT MOST OF THE RAIN ASSOCIATED WITH CHARLEY IS
NOW DEPARTING THE SOUTH FLORIDA AREA. FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE EVENING...
THERE IS ONLY A SLIGHT CHANCE OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS ACROSS THE AREA
AND A CHANCE ACROSS THE LAKE OKEECHOBEE AREA. FLOODING IS NO LONGER EXPECTED.

WITH CHARLEY DEPARTING THE AREA...THE THREAT OF TORNADO HAS NOW SUBSIDED.
