February, 2023 will go down as one of the warmest in Middle
Tennessee's history. Several temperature records were broken on
multiple days. It was also drier than usual.
In Nashville, the average temperature was 51.3 degrees, which was
7.8 degrees above normal and makes this the 2nd warmest February
in Nashville's history, with records going back to 1871. The
average high temperature was 61.6 degrees and the average low
temperature was 40.9 degrees. The highest temperature was 85
degrees on the 23rd, which is the warmest temperature ever
observed in Nashville in February. The lowest temperature was 19
degrees on the 4th. There were just 8 days when the temperature
dropped to 32 degrees or below.
Rainfall for the month totaled 2.80 inches, which was 1.67 inches
below normal -- and 1.77 inches of that fell just on the 16th.
There were 11 days with measurable rainfall, and no snow was
observed. There were 4 days with thunderstorms and the fastest
wind gust was 49 mph on the 27th.
In Clarksville, the average temperature was 49.4 degrees, which
was 8.7 degrees above normal. The average high temperature was
60.4 degrees and the average low temperature was 38.5 degrees.
The highest temperature was 80 degrees on the 22nd and 23rd. The
lowest temperature was 18 degrees on the 4th. There were 10 days
when the temperature dropped to 32 degrees or below.
Rainfall for the month totaled 4.33 inches, which was 0.46 inches
above normal -- and 2.73 inches of that fell just on the 16th.
There were 9 days with measurable rainfall. There were 2 days
with thunderstorms and the fastest wind gust was 60 mph on the
27th.
In Crossville, the average temperature was 47.6 degrees, which
was 8.8 degrees above normal and ties for the warmest February in
Crossville's history, with records going back to 1955. The
average high temperature was 56.5 degrees and the average low
temperature was 38.7 degrees. The highest temperature was 78
degrees on the 23rd. The lowest temperature was 17 degrees on the
4th. There were 10 days when the temperature dropped to 32 degrees
or below.
Rainfall for the month totaled 3.91 inches, which was 1.22 inches
below normal -- and 1.95 inches of that fell just on the 16th.
There were 13 days with measurable rainfall. There was 1 day with
thunderstorms and the fastest wind gust was 45 mph on the 14th.
The March outlook for Middle Tennessee from the Climate Prediction
Center favors above normal temperatures and above normal
precipitation.
