Areas affected...middle TN
Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 280...
Valid 280002Z - 280100Z
The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 280
continues.
SUMMARY...Scattered severe gusts (60-70 mph) will probably result in
fairly extensive tree damage in swaths across middle Tennessee this
evening. A new severe thunderstorm watch may be considered during
the next hour or so for portions of northeast Alabama and northern
Georgia if it appears the risk for severe gusts will persist into
the mid-late evening.
DISCUSSION...Radar mosaic shows a severe line segment across
northwestern portions of middle TN moving southeast at 40-kt. The
KHPX VAD showed a 50-kt rear inflow jet with the squall line. The
airmass over middle TN is considered moderately unstable with a 15.3
lowest 100-mb mean mixing ratio with westerly flow increasing with
height to 50-kt through 400-mb. Forecasting scattered 60-70 mph
gusts as this line segment travels southeast to the west of a warm
advection wing of thunderstorms over east-central TN. Extensive
tree damage is probable with the higher gusts.
