Areas affected...Eastern OK...Northern AR...Western TN
Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 71...73...
Valid 100330Z - 100500Z
The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 71, 73
continues.
SUMMARY...Threat for hail and damaging wind gusts will persist
across the region for the next several hours.
DISCUSSION...Structure of the regional radar data suggests the
linear transition of the previously cellular convection is complete
with an unbroken line of thunderstorms now extending from eastern OK
across northern AR and into western TN. Most progressive part of the
line is across western TN where the more orthogonal orientation of
the convection promotes more downwind propagation. Farther west,
the line is still moderately progressive, aided by the northwesterly
flow aloft and the southeastward progressing cold front. As such,
some wind threat will persist for the next few hours, although the
increasingly stable low-level airmass suggests the primary severe
threat will remain large hail. This hail threat supported primarily
by steep mid-level lapse rates (as sampled by the 00Z LZK sounding)
and strong bulk shear.
