...SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS EXPECTED OVER PARTS OF THE GULF COAST STATES
THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING.
THE NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER IN NORMAN OK IS FORECASTING THE
DEVELOPMENT OF A FEW STRONG TORNADOES OVER PARTS OF THE GULF COAST
STATES THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING.
THE AREAS MOST LIKELY TO EXPERIENCE THIS ACTIVITY INCLUDE
ALABAMA
NORTHWEST GEORGIA
SOUTHERN PORTION OF MIDDLE TENNESSEE
SURROUNDING THE MODERATE RISK AREA...THERE IS A SLIGHT RISK OF
SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS FROM THE CENTRAL GULF COAST STATES NORTHWARD
TOWARDS THE CENTRAL GREAT LAKES
EXTREME WINDS ALOFT WILL OVERSPREAD MUCH OF THE CENTRAL GULF COAST
STATES INTO THE GREAT LAKES TODAY ASSOCIATED WITH VERY STRONG SYSTEM
MOVING OUT OF THE CENTRAL PLAINS. SURFACE COLD FRONT NOW MOVING
INTO THE MIDDLE AND LOWER MISSISSIPPI RIVER VALLEYS WILL SURGE
EASTWARD INTO THE OHIO AND TENNESSEE RIVER VALLEYS AND THE SOUTHERN
APPALACHIANS BY LATER TODAY. AHEAD OF THIS FRONT...THE AIR MASS IS
BECOMING UNSEASONABLY MOIST WITH SURFACE DEW POINTS INCREASING INTO
THE 60S. THE COMBINATION OF INCREASING SHEAR ATOP A MOISTENING
SURFACE AIR MASS SUGGESTS SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WILL BECOME
WIDESPREAD AHEAD OF THE COLD FRONT DURING THE EARLY TO MID AFTERNOON
AND CONTINUE WELL INTO THE NIGHT NEARER THE GULF COAST.
TORNADOES...SOME OF WHICH COULD BE QUITE STRONG...ALONG WITH
DAMAGING WINDS WILL BE THE PRIMARY SEVERE THREATS...MOST LIKELY
WITHIN THE MODERATE RISK AREA.
THOSE IN THE THREATENED AREA ARE URGED TO REVIEW SEVERE WEATHER
SAFETY RULES AND TO LISTEN TO RADIO...TELEVISION...AND NOAA WEATHER
