...TROPICAL STORM RAI MOVING AWAY FROM KOROR AND KAYANGEL...

.NEW INFORMATION...
Typhoon Warnings for Koror and Kayangel have been cancelled.

.AREAS AFFECTED...
This Local Statement provides information and recommended actions
for people in Koror and Kayangel in the Republic of Palau.

.WATCHES/WARNINGS...
Typhoon Warnings for Koror and Kayangel in Republic of Palau
have been cancelled. Damaging winds are no longer expected, however,
tropical storm force gusts of 39 mph or more are still possible.

.STORM INFORMATION...
At 100 AM ChST...1500 UTC...the center of Tropical Storm Rai was
located near Latitude 8.7 degrees North and Longitude 133.9 degrees
East. Rai is moving west-northwest at 13 mph, starting its retreat
away from the Republic of Palau. It is expected to maintain this
general course and speed over the next 24 hours. Maximum sustained
winds are 65 mph.

.SITUATION OVERVIEW...
Winds will increase as Tropical Storm Rai continues to track in a
general west-northwest direction away from Palau towards the
Phillipine Sea. Rai is expected to intensify through Thursday,
likely becoming a typhoon later this morning. However, damaging
winds are no longer a threat to Koror and Kayangel.

.NEXT UPDATE...

...TYPHOON WARNING CANCELLED...

.PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Damaging winds are no longer expected, however, gusty winds are
expected to continue through Thursday morning. A High Surf
Advisory is now in effect as marine conditions will remain
hazardous for small craft operations.

...WIND INFORMATION...
As Rai continues west-northwest and moves away from Palau,
southwest winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 40 mph possible.
Winds are expected to diminish further to between 15 and 25 mph
Thursday.

...SEAS...
Combined seas have subsided to between 8 and 11 feet. Surf will
remain hazardous at around 9 feet along south and west facing reefs
and further diminish through tonight.

...OTHER STORM EFFECTS...
Additional rainfall of 1 to 2 inches is possible through today.
