...TROPICAL STORM SURIGAE NORTHEAST OF KAYANGEL AND DRIFTING WEST...

.NEW INFORMATION...
None

.AREAS AFFECTED...
This local statement provides information and recommended actions
for people on Ngulu in Yap State, and for Kayangel and Koror in the
Republic of Palau.

.WATCHES/WARNINGS...
A Tropical Storm Warning remains in effect for Koror and Kayangel in
the Republic of Palau and for Ngulu in Yap State.

.STORM INFORMATION...
At 700 PM ChST...0900 UTC...the center of Tropical Storm Surigae was
located near 9.0 degrees North and Longitude 136.0 degrees East,
which is about 115 miles west-northwest of Ngulu, about 110 miles
northeast of Kayangel, and about 160 miles northeast of Koror.
Surigae was moving west at 3 mph with maximum sustained winds of 60
mph.

.SITUATION OVERVIEW...
Tropical Storm Surigae will continue its westward drift overnight
while intensifying. At the same time, an expanding wind field will
prolong tropical storm conditions, especially at Kayangel and Koror.
Surigae is expected to make a gradual turn toward the west-northwest
with a slight increase in forward speed Friday. Surigae is expected
to soon become a typhoon.

The next local statement will be issued by 300 AM Friday morning or
sooner if needed.

.PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Stay in a sturdy shelter until winds have subsided later tonight.
Follow instructions from your emergency officials.

...WIND INFORMATION...
Tropical storm force south winds of 35 to 45 mph with gusts to 55
mph will continue into tonight before subsiding to between 25 and 35
mph Friday morning. Hazardous marine conditions for small craft will
continue for the next few days as winds will be slow to decrease
further.

...STORM SURGE AND SURF INFORMATION...
Dangerous surf of 13 to 15 feet will persist along west and south
facing reefs through tonight. Surf is expected to subside to
hazardous levels of 11 to 13 feet Friday morning, continuing into
Friday night. Coastal inundation of 1 to 2 feet is expected along
southern and western shores through Friday morning.

...OTHER STORM EFFECTS...
Additional rainfall of 1 to 2 inches is possible through tonight as
outer rain bands periodically pass over the area.

...KAYANGEL...

.PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Remain in a sturdy shelter until winds have subsided Friday night.
Follow instructions from your emergency officials. The slow-moving
nature of an intensifying Surigae will prolong tropical storm
conditions through tonight and most of Friday.

...WIND INFORMATION...
Tropical storm force west-northwest winds 50 to 60 mph with gusts to
75 mph will continue through midday Friday before shifting to the
southwest and gradually subsiding in the afternoon. Damaging winds
will continue late into the evening Friday before subsiding to
between 25 and 35 mph early Saturday morning. Hazardous marine
conditions will continue for the next few days as winds will be slow
to decrease further.

...STORM SURGE AND SURF INFORMATION...
Dangerous surf of 14 to 19 feet along west and north facing reefs
will continue through Friday morning, eventually spreading to south
facing reefs. Surf will slowly subside beginning Friday night.
Coastal inundation of 2 to 3 feet is expected along northern and
western shores through Friday evening, then will spread to southern
shores Friday night.

...OTHER STORM EFFECTS...
Additional rainfall of 5 to 10 inches is likely through Friday night.
Flash flooding remains possible.

...KOROR...

.PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Remain in a sturdy shelter until winds have subsided Friday night.
Follow instructions from your emergency officials. The slow-moving
nature of an intensifying Surigae will prolong tropical storm
conditions through tonight and most of Friday.

...WIND INFORMATION...
Tropical storm force west winds of 35 to 45 mph with gusts to 55 mph
will increase overnight to around 50 mph with gusts to 65 mph. Winds
will shift to the southwest Friday afternoon while decreasing slowly.
Winds are expected to fall below damaging levels Friday evening. All
vessels, especially small craft, should remain in port.

...STORM SURGE AND SURF INFORMATION...
Dangerous surf of 13 to 18 feet along west and northwest facing reefs
will continue through Friday morning. Surf will slowly subside Friday
evening, but will spread to south and southwest facing reefs. Coastal
inundation of 1 to 3 feet is expected along northern and western
shores through Friday afternoon, then will spread to southern shores
Friday night.

...OTHER STORM EFFECTS...
Additional rainfall of 5 to 10 inches is possible through Friday
afternoon. Flash flooding and mudslides are expected.
