...TROPICAL STORM SURIGAE STRENGTHENING AND MOVING WEST-NORTHWEST...

.NEW INFORMATION...
A Tropical Storm Warning is now in effect for Koror in the Republic
of Palau..

.AREAS AFFECTED...
This local statement provides information and recommended actions
for people on Ngulu in Yap State, and for Kayangel and Koror in the
Republic of Palau.

.WATCHES/WARNINGS...
A Tropical Storm Warning is now in effect for Koror in the Republic
of Palau.

A Tropical Storm Warning remains in effect for Kayangel in the
Republic of Palau and for Ngulu in Yap State.

.STORM INFORMATION...
At 100 PM ChST...0300 UTC...the center of Tropical Storm Surigae was
located near 9.1 degrees North and Longitude 136.2 degrees East,
which is about 105 miles west-northwest of Ngulu, about 125 miles
northeast of Kayangel, and about 175 miles northeast of Koror.
Surigae was moving west-northwest at 5 mph with maximum sustained
winds of 60 mph.

.SITUATION OVERVIEW...
Tropical Storm Surigae will continue a slow west-northwest movement
the next couple of days as it gradually intensifies. Surigae could
become a typhoon Friday or Saturday.

.NEXT UPDATE...
The next local statement will be issued by 900 PM this evening or
sooner if needed.

.PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Stay in a sturdy shelter until winds have subsided this afternoon.
Follow instructions from your emergency officials.

...WIND INFORMATION...
Southwest winds of 30 to 40 mph with gusts to 45 mph will subside to
between 20 and 30 mph later this afternoon. Hazardous marine
conditions for small craft will continue for the next few days as
winds will be slow to decrease further.

...STORM SURGE AND SURF INFORMATION...
Dangerous surf of 13 to 15 feet will persist along west and south
facing reefs through this afternoon. Surf should subside to hazardous
levels of 11 to 13 feet this evening, continuing into Friday
afternoon. Coastal inundation of 1 to 2 feet is expected along
southern and western shores through this evening.

...OTHER STORM EFFECTS...
An additional rainfall of 1 to 2 inches is possible through tonight
as outer rain bands periodically pass over the area.

...KAYANGEL...

.PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Remain in a sturdy shelter until winds have subsided Friday
afternoon. Follow instructions from your emergency officials.

...WIND INFORMATION...
Tropical storm force west-northwest winds of 40 to 50 mph with gusts
to 60 mph will continue through this evening, turning west and
increasing slightly to between 45 and 55 mph with gusts to 65 mph
overnight. Winds are expected to slowly subside Friday morning,
eventually falling to between 25 and 35 mph Friday afternoon.
Hazardous marine conditions will continue for the next few days as
winds will be slow to decrease further.

...STORM SURGE AND SURF INFORMATION...
Dangerous surf of 14 and 18 feet along west and south facing reefs
will continue through Friday morning before slowly decreasing
beginning Friday afternoon. Coastal inundation of 1 to 3 feet is
expected along northern and western shores through Friday, then will
spread to southern shores Friday night.

...OTHER STORM EFFECTS...
An additional rainfall of 4 to 8 inches is likely through Friday
morning. Flash flooding remains possible.

...KOROR...

.PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Remain in a sturdy shelter until winds have subsided Friday
afternoon. Follow instructions from your emergency officials.

...WIND INFORMATION...
tropical storm force west winds of 30 to 40 mph with gusts to 50 mph
will increase slightly to between 35 and 45 mph with gusts up to 55
mph overnight. Winds will shift to southwest Friday while decreasing
slowly. All vessels, especially small craft, should remain in port.

...STORM SURGE AND SURF INFORMATION...
Dangerous surf of 13 and 18 feet along west and northwest facing
reefs will continue through tonight. Surf will slowly subside Friday,
but spread to south and southwest facing reefs by Friday afternoon.
Coastal inundation of 1 to 3 feet is expected along northern and
western shores through Friday, then will spread to southern shores
Friday night.

...OTHER STORM EFFECTS...
An additional rainfall of 4 to 8 inches is possible through Friday
morning. Flash flooding and mudslides remain possible.
