...TROPICAL STORM SURIGAE VERY CLOSE TO NGULU...

.NEW INFORMATION...
A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Yap Island as of 11 AM
ChST.

A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for Kayangel and Koror as of 11
AM ChST.

.AREAS AFFECTED...
This local statement provides information and recommended actions
for people on Yap Island and Ngulu in Yap State, Kayangel and Koror
in Palau.

.WATCHES/WARNINGS...
A Tropical Storm Warning remains in effect for Yap Island and Ngulu
in Yap State.

A Tropical Storm Watch remains in effect for Kayangel and Koror in
Palau.

.STORM INFORMATION...
At 100 PM ChST...0300 UTC...the center of Tropical Storm Surigae was
located about 25 miles north-northeast of Ngulu and 65 miles south-
southwest of Yap near Latitude 8.6 degrees North and Longitude 137.7
degrees East, moving northwest at 3 mph with maximum sustained winds
of 40 mph.

.SITUATION OVERVIEW...
Tropical Storm Surigae is expected to drift north-northwestward away
from Ngulu this afternoon, then turn west-northwest with increasing
speed tonight. Surigae is going to pass north of Koror and Kayangel
on Friday morning.

.NEXT UPDATE...
The next local statement will be issued by 900 PM this evening or
sooner if needed.

...YAP...

.PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Preparation for possible damaging winds of 40 to 45 mph must be
completed as soon as possible. Then stay in a sturdy shelter and
follow instructions from your emergency officials.

...WIND INFORMATION...
East winds of 20 to 30 mph with gust to 40 mph in showers this
afternoon will shift to southeast later tonight.

...STORM SURGE AND SURF INFORMATION...
Surf will become hazardous along south facing reefs at 9 to 11 feet
later this afternoon, then build further to between 10 and 13 feet
tonight. Surf will become dangerous at 13 to 15 feet and spread to
southwest facing reefs on Thursday.

...OTHER STORM EFFECTS...
Additional rainfall of 1 to 3 inches is possible through Thursday.
Flash flooding is possible along rivers and low-lying areas during
heavy showers.

...NGULU...

.PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Stay in a sturdy shelter until winds have subsided on Thursday.
Follow instructions from your emergency officials.

...WIND INFORMATION...
West winds of 30 to 40 mph with gust to 50 mph will begin to subside
and shift to the southwest tonight.

...STORM SURGE AND SURF INFORMATION...
Dangerous surf of 13 to 15 feet will persist along west and south
facing reefs through tonight. Surf should subside to hazardous levels
of 11 to 13 feet by Thursday afternoon. Coastal inundation up to 2
feet is expected along south and west facing shores.

...OTHER STORM EFFECTS...
Additional rainfall of 1 to 2 inches is likely through Thursday
afternoon.

.PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Preparation for possible damaging winds of 40 to 50 mph must be
completed by late tonight. Stay up to date with the latest
information from your weather service office and follow instructions
from your emergency officials.

...WIND INFORMATION...
Northwest winds of 20 to 30 mph with gust to 40 mph in showers will
continue through tonight. Winds could become damaging at 40 to 50 mph
and shift to the west-northwest on Thursday morning.

...STORM SURGE AND SURF INFORMATION...
Surf will become hazardous along north and west facing reefs at 9 to
11 feet by this evening, then build further to between 10 and 13 feet
on Thursday morning. Surf will become dangerous at 13 to 15 feet and
spread to southwest facing reefs Thursday afternoon.

...OTHER STORM EFFECTS...
Additional rainfall of 2 to 4 inches is possible through Thursday
afternoon. Flooding potential will rise tonight through Thursday
afternoon.
