Tropical Weather Discussion for North America, Central America
Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, northern sections of South
America, and Atlantic Ocean to the African coast from the
Equator to 32N. The following information is based on satellite
imagery, weather observations, radar and meteorological analysis.

Based on 1800 UTC surface analysis and satellite imagery through
2300 UTC.

...TROPICAL WAVES...

A tropical wave is along 76W from 16N southward, moving westward
at 10-15 knots. Associated moderate to strong convection is
occurring inland over N Colombia and NW Venezuela.

...MONSOON TROUGH/ITCZ...

The monsoon trough passes through the coastal sections of Sierra
Leone near 08N13W to 06N17W. The ITCZ continues from 06N17W to
00N43W to the coast of Brazil near 01S46W. Scattered moderate
convection is from 02N-07N between 23W-39W.

GULF OF MEXICO...

An earlier 1008 mb low centered near 23N96W has dissipated,
leaving a weak trough offshore of Veracruz, Mexico. Scattered
weak to moderate convection is over the eastern Bay of Campeche S
of 21N between 91W and 93.5W. The remainder of the Gulf of Mexico
has 10-15 kt SE return flow. Widely scattered showers and
thunderstorms extend from the Yucatan Channel northeastward across
the Straits of Florida.

Surface ridging over the NE Gulf will support moderate to fresh
E to SE winds into early next week, over much of the basin.

CARIBBEAN SEA...

A tropical wave is over the central Caribbean. See above.
Broken multi-layered clouds with areas of scattered showers and
isolated thunderstorms extend from the waters offshore of
Nicaragua north and northeastward to all of Cuba. from 10N-13N
between 81W- 84W. Isolated moderate afternoon convection also
lingers over Puerto Rico, Hispaniola, and Cuba.

Fresh to occasionally strong trade winds will persist in the
south-central Caribbean Sea through Monday. A tropical wave
along 76W will move across the Caribbean Sea into Sunday. Fresh
to strong winds will pulse in the Gulf of Honduras through
Saturday.

ATLANTIC OCEAN...

A 1026 mb high is over the W Atlantic near 36N60W. A stationary
front is over the central Atlantic from 31N46W to 24N59W.
Scattered moderate isolated strong convection is within 180 nm SE
of the front. A 1028 mb high is over the E Atlantic near 34N22W.

A frontal trough lingering along 22N NE of the Bahamas will remain
stationary overnight, with active convection persisting E of 70W.
Large NE swell affect the waters NE of the Bahamas Thu through
this morning will continue to subside through Sat. Modest high
pressure will build across the northern waters through Sat.
