Tropical Weather Discussion for North America, Central America
Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, northern sections of South
America, and Atlantic Ocean to the African coast from the
Equator to 32N. The following information is based on satellite
imagery, weather observations, radar and meteorological analysis.

Based on 1200 UTC surface analysis and satellite imagery through
1715 UTC.

...SPECIAL FEATURES...

...ATLANTIC OCEAN GALE WARNING...

As of 07/1500 UTC, a cold front is over the western Atlantic from
31N75W to the Straits of Florida near 25N80W, moving east. Gale
force winds are on both sides of the front. Seas range from 12 to
17 ft. The gale is expected to last until 07/2100 UTC.

...CARIBBEAN GALE WARNING...

The surface pressure gradient along the coast of Colombia is
forecast to tighten during the night on 09/0300 UTC then produce
gale force winds until 09/1200 UTC. Seas will range 10 to 12 ft.

...MONSOON TROUGH/ITCZ...

The monsoon trough extends from the coast of Liberia near 05N09W
to 02N18W. The ITCZ continues from 02N18W to 02S30W to the coast
of Brazil near 04S38W. Scattered moderate convection is well N of
the ITCZ from 03N-10N between 37W-43W.

GULF OF MEXICO...

As of 07/1500 UTC, the cold front extends from the Straits of
Florida near 25N80W to W Cuba near 23N82W. Scattered moderate
convection is within 45 nm of the front. 20-25 kt northerly winds
are N of the front. Scattered showers are over the SE Gulf of
Mexico and S Florida, east of 83W and south of 27N. A 1019 mb high
is over the SW Gulf near 23N94W. In the upper levels, a 150 kt
subtropical jetstream extends from Veracruz Mexico to beyond
central Florida.

The front will move southeast of the Gulf by this afternoon. By
Fri night, conditions across the Gulf will quickly improve with
relatively tranquil winds and seas through Tue. The next cold
front may reach the NW Gulf late on Tue.

CARIBBEAN SEA...

As of 07/1500 UTC, a cold front extends from W Cuba near 23N82W
to Belize near 18N88W. Scattered showers are within 60 nm N of the
front. A 1013 mb low is along the N coast of Honduras near
17N86W. Elsewhere, scattered showers are over the Leeward Islands
and Puerto Rico, N of 15N and E of 67W. 15-25 kt tradewinds are E
of the front with strongest winds along the coast of N Colombia
and weakest winds along the coast of Nicaragua.

The front will will move farther SE into the NW Caribbean later
today, become stationary from central Cuba to NE Yucatan by Sat
afternoon, and dissipate on Sun. As the Bermuda High rebuilds
north of the area in the wake of the front, this will support
winds pulsing to gale force off Colombia, mainly at night,
starting late Sat through Tue.

ATLANTIC OCEAN...

As of 07/1500 UTC, a cold front is over the western Atlantic from
31N75W to the Straits of Florida near 25N80W, moving east. Gale
force winds are on both sides of the front, N of 28N. Scattered
moderate convection is within 90 nm of the front. A broad ridge
is over the remainder of the Atlantic anchored by a 1032 mb High
near 30N37W.

The W atlantic cold front will move SE and reach from near
Bermuda to central Cuba by Sat afternoon, become stationary in the
same vicinity by Sun afternoon, and dissipate on Mon.
