Tropical Weather Discussion for North America, Central America
Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, northern sections of South
America, and Atlantic Ocean to the African coast from the
Equator to 32N. The following information is based on satellite
imagery, weather observations, radar and meteorological analysis.

Based on 0600 UTC surface analysis and satellite imagery through
0930 UTC.

...MONSOON TROUGH/ITCZ...

The monsoon trough extends from the coast of Sierra Leone near
08N13W to 04N16W. The ITCZ continues from 04N16W to 00N27W to
03S31W to the coast of Brazil near 02S41W. Scattered moderate
convection is from 01N-06N between 20W-51W. Scattered moderate
convection is from 02S-07S between 31W-36W.

GULF OF MEXICO...

A weak cold front extends from the Florida Big Bend region near
29N83W southwestward to NE Mexico near 25N98W. Scattered moderate
to strong convection is well south of the front from 18.5N-23N
between 94W-98W. Scattered moderate isolated strong convection is
across the SE Gulf south of 26N. High pressure building SE off of
Texas is producing fresh N to NE winds and seas 4 to 5 ft to the N
of the cold front.

The cold front will move SE across the eastern half of the Gulf
today and reach from Tampa Florida to NE Mexico this afternoon and
then move SE of the area into the NW Caribbean Mon morning.
Another cold front will move into the northern Gulf Wed night.

CARIBBEAN SEA...

15-25 kt trade winds prevail over much of the Caribbean Sea, with
winds to 30 kt and seas 10-11 ft just off the coast of Colombia.
Strong SE winds prevail across the Gulf of Honduras. Atmospheric
conditions remain very stable across much of the basin with only
isolated thunderstorms along the Panamanian coastal waters, while
widely scattered showers are moving across the NE Caribbean.

High pressure extending from the central Atlantic to the NW
Bahamas will maintain fresh to strong trade winds over the south-
central Caribbean through Tue before weakening. Strong east to
southeast winds over the Gulf of Honduras will pulse again Sunday
night before diminishing early this week. Smoke from agricultural
fires in Central America will likely reduce visibility over the
Gulf of Honduras for the next several days.

ATLANTIC OCEAN...

A cluster of strong thunderstorms continues from the Straits of
Florida across the NW Bahamas, as energetic SW winds aloft
continue to maintain unstable conditions across the region. A
1025 mb surface high near 30N46W extends a ridge WSW to the NW
Bahamas, yielding anticyclonic flow across the area waters.

A weak cold front along the SE U.S. coast early this morning will
move offshore and continue southeastward today through tonight,
and reach from 28N65W to the NW Cuba coast by Mon morning then
quickly weaken as it drifts further SE through Tue night. The
front is expected to stall across the central Bahamas Wed as high
pressure slides eastward along 31N. Yet another cold front will
move off the SE U.S. coast Wed night into Thu preceded by fresh to
strong southerly winds and active weather.
