Tropical Weather Discussion for North America, Central America
Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, northern sections of South
America, and Atlantic Ocean to the African coast from the
Equator to 32N. The following information is based on satellite
imagery, weather observations, radar and meteorological analysis.

Based on 1800 UTC surface analysis and satellite imagery through
2315 UTC.

...SPECIAL FEATURE...

...Atlantic Gale Warning...

A gale is underway off the northeast coast of Florida associated
with a southward moving gale low near 28N78W. The gale is
presently N of 29N W of 75W with seas 10-14 ft. The gale is
forecast to continue until 28/1800 UTC. Please refer to the latest

...MONSOON TROUGH/ITCZ...

The monsoon trough extends from the coast of Liberia near 07N11W
to 01N13W. The ITCZ continues from 01N13W to 03S20W to 02S30W to
the coast of Brazil near 04S38W. Isolated moderate convection is
from 04N-09S between 20W-32W. Scattered moderate convection is
from 02S-09S between 32W-40W.

GULF OF MEXICO...

The tail end of a cold front is over the SW Gulf of Mexico from
the eastern Bay of Campeche near 19N91W to N of Tampico Mexico
near 24N98W. Scattered showers are within 60 nm of the front. A
1030 mb high pressure is centered over Arkansas near 35N91W
producing 10-20 kt NE to E winds over the Gulf of Mexico.

The cold front over the SW Gulf waters will dissipate tonight.
Fresh to strong N to NE winds will prevail over the eastern Gulf
through Thu. The next cold front will move into the NW Gulf Sun
followed by fresh to strong NE winds and building seas.

CARIBBEAN SEA...

A cold front extends from central Cuba near 23N79W to the Yucatan
peninsula near 20N88W. Scattered showers are within 60 nm of the
front. 15-20 kt N winds are N of the front. 20-25 kt NE winds are
along the coast of N Colombia. 10-15 kt tradewinds are over the E
Caribbean E of 75W. Scattered showers are over Puerto Rico,
Hispaniola, E Cuba , and Jamaica. Isolated moderate convection is
inland over N Colombia. In the upper levels, strong subsidence
persists over the Caribbean Sea and Central America suppressing
deep convection.

High pressure east of Bermuda will support fresh to strong trade
winds near the coast of Colombia through tonight, then mainly
moderate to fresh winds will prevail the remainder of the forecast
period. A cold front now extending over the NW Caribbean will
stall and dissipate from eastern Cuba to eastern Honduras through
the latter part of the week.

ATLANTIC OCEAN...

A cold front enters the waters near 31N63W and extends westward
to a 1014 mb low pressure near 28N78W then extends S to central
Cuba near 23N79W. Scattered moderate convection is N of 27N and W
of 73W. Farther east, a surface trough enters the waters from
31N60W to N of Hispaniola near 22N68W. Scattered moderate
convection is within 180 nm E of the trough N of 25N mostly due to
upper level diffluence. Elsewhere, a 1014 mb low is centered N of
the Canary Islands near 33N15W.

Gale force winds are over the W Atlantic. See above. The cold front
will stall from 26N65W to the Windward Passage through Fri, then
dissipate through late Sat. Winds and seas will diminish through
late week as the low pressure weakens as it moves eastward along
the front.
