Tropical Weather Discussion for North America, Central America
Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, northern sections of South
America, and Atlantic Ocean to the African coast from the
Equator to 32N. The following information is based on satellite
imagery, weather observations, radar and meteorological analysis.

Based on 0600 UTC surface analysis and satellite imagery through
1130 UTC.

...SPECIAL FEATURES...

The center of Tropical Storm GORDON at 03/1800 UTC is near 25.8N
81.9W, or about 13 nm/25 km to the WSW of Marco Island in
Florida. GORDON is moving WNW, or 300 degrees, 14 knots. The
estimated minimum central pressure is 1007 mb. The maximum
sustained wind speeds are 45 knots with gusts to 55 knots.
Scattered moderate to strong rainshowers are within 180 nm to
the NE of the center, and within 150 nm to the SE of the center.
Widely scattered moderate to isolated strong rainshowers cover
the rest of the area that is within 150 nm to the NW of the
center.
Widely scattered moderate to isolated strong rainshowers also are
between 75W and 83W in the waters and inland, as far to the north
as the coastal areas of South Carolina. Rainshowers cover the
Bahamas from Andros Island northward from 77W westward, and
Florida from 28N southward, including across the Florida Keys and
the Straits of Florida. The PUBLIC ADVISORIES about Tropical
Storm GORDON are issued under the WMO header WTNT32 KNHC and
under the AWIPS header MIATCPAT2. The FORECAST/ADVISORIES about
Tropical Storm FLORENCE are issued under the WMO header WTNT22
KNHC, and under the AWIPS header MIATCMAT2.

The center of Tropical Storm Florence at 03/1500 UTC is near
18.3N 38.7W, or about 800 nm to the WNW of the Cabo Verde
Islands. Florence is moving WNW, or 285 degrees, 14 knots. The
estimated minimum central pressure is 997 mb. The maximum
sustained wind speeds are 55 knots with gusts to 65 knots.
Widely scattered moderate to isolated strong rainshowers are
within 240 nm of the center in the NE quadrant. Isolated moderate
rainshowers are within 120 nm on either side of the line from
08N40W to 11N36W to 16N34W. The PUBLIC ADVISORIES about Tropical
Storm FLORENCE are issued under the WMO header WTNT31 KNHC and
under the AWIPS header MIATCPAT1. The FORECAST/ADVISORIES about
Tropical Storm FLORENCE are issued under the WMO header WTNT21
KNHC, and under the AWIPS header MIATCMAT1.

...TROPICAL WAVES...

An Atlantic Ocean tropical wave is along 21W from 20N southward.
A 1007 mb low pressure is along the tropical wave near 10N.
Scattered strong rainshowers are from 13N to 16N between 20W and
24W. Widely scattered moderate to isolated strong rainshowers are
from 07N to 10N between 24W and 30W.

A Caribbean Sea tropical wave is along 74W/75W, from 21N
southward, through the Windward Passage to Colombia. The wave is
moving through an area of upper level cyclonic wind flow, with an
elongated NE-to-SW oriented trough. Isolated moderate to locally
strong rainshowers are from 15N northward between 70W and 80W.

A tropical wave is moving through the SW corner of the Gulf of
Mexico, along 93W/94W from 21N southward, across the Isthmus of
Tehuantepec of southern Mexico. Isolated moderate rainshowers are
within 120 nm on either side of the tropical wave.

...MONSOON TROUGH/ITCZ...

The monsoon trough passes through the coastal sections of Senegal
near 15N17W, to a 1007 mb low pressure center, that is along a 21W
tropical wave, near 10N. The monsoon trough continues to 09N26W
and 11N32W. The ITCZ is along 10N45W, to 06N59W in Guyana.
Widely scattered moderate to isolated strong rainshowers are along
the coast from 05N to 10N between land and 16W. Isolated moderate
to locally strong rainshowers are from 03N to 10N between 35W and
60W, and from 02N south between 33W and 40W.

...DISCUSSION...

GULF OF MEXICO...

Please read the SPECIAL FEATURES section for details about
Tropical Storm Gordon. An upper level trough is west of Gordon
along 86W. Gordon is forecast to move NW during the next 24 to 36
hours. Upper level anticyclonic wind flow covers the rest of the
Gulf of Mexico.

CARIBBEAN SEA...

An upper level trough extends southward from the Gulf of Mexico
to Belize. Isolated moderate showers cover the NW part of the
Caribbean Sea north of 15N and west of 80W.

A tropical wave moving across Haiti will reach the western
Caribbean Sea by mid week. Fresh to strong winds will continue
near the coast of Colombia tonight. A relatively weak ridge
north of 20N will maintain moderate to fresh trade winds across
most of the region through the weekend.

ATLANTIC OCEAN...

Please read the SPECIAL FEATURES section for details about
Tropical Storm Florence. The projected path of Florence may bring
strong winds and seas to 9 ft to AMZ127 east of 62W by Thursday.
Refer to the Offshore Waters Forecast FZNT23 KNHC/MIAOFFNT3 for
more details.

An upper level cyclonic circulation center is near 27N57W. Upper
level cyclonic wind flow in a broad trough covers the region
north of 19N between 50W and 65W. Scattered moderate to isolated
strong showers are from 18N to 22N between 59W and 62W. Widely
scattered moderate showers are from 24N to 30N between 53W and
58W. Isolated showers are elsewhere in the area of upper level
cyclonic wind flow.
