Tropical Weather Discussion for North America, Central America
Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, northern sections of South
America, and Atlantic Ocean to the African coast from the
Equator to 32N. The following information is based on satellite
imagery, weather observations, radar and meteorological analysis.

Based on 1800 UTC surface analysis and satellite imagery through
2315 UTC.

...MONSOON TROUGH/ITCZ...

The monsoon trough extends from 08N13W to 01N21W. The ITCZ
continues from 01N21W to 00N30W to 00N50W. Scattered moderate to
strong convection is along the coast of W Africa from 04N to 10N
between 08W and 12W. Widely scattered moderate convection is along
the coast of South America from 03S to 05N between 35W and 55W.

...DISCUSSION...

GULF OF MEXICO...

A cold front has exited the Straits of Florida. A 1019 mb high is
centered over the NW Gulf of Mexico near 28N92W. 5-10 kt
anticyclonic winds are over the NW Gulf. Scattered moderate
convection is also over the NW Gulf from 24N to 30N between 89W
and 95W, in response to a mid level disturbance moving over the
region. This disturbance over the NW Gulf will move east,
bringing with is showers to the north central Gulf tonight. Most
of the region should see relatively light winds and low seas for
the remainder of this weekend.

CARIBBEAN SEA...

Scattered moderate to isolated strong convection is occurring
over the far southwestern Caribbean Sea near the coasts of
Colombia, Panama, and Costa Rica. This activity is primarily
associated with a surface trough that extends from the eastern
Pacific to low pressure over NE Colombia. Isolated moderate
convection is occurring over the northwestern Caribbean to
include central Honduras and central Cuba. This activity is
associated with a trough that extends from 22N82W to 16N86W.
Otherwise, typical patches of low clouds and isolated showers are
moving westward across the area in the trade wind flow. Fresh
trades are occurring over the S central Caribbean, while mainly
moderate trades are occurring elsewhere. These winds will prevail
through the remainder of the weekend.

ATLANTIC OCEAN...

A cold front extends from 32N70W to a 1012 mb low near 28N75W to
central Cuba near 23N80W. Scattered moderate convection is over a
large area E of the front N of 24N between 65W and 74W. A very
large 1037 mb high is over the central Atlantic near 39N41W
producing fair weather. Elsewhere in the tropics, a surface
trough extends from 10N54W to South America near 05N55W. Scattered
showers are within 180 nm if the trough.

An upper trough over the eastern Atlantic is supporting scattered
moderate convection from 15N to 21N between 18W and 25W, to
include portions of the Cape Verde Islands.

For the remainder of the weekend, the cold front over the W
Atlantic will move east and weaken, with thunderstorms continuing
within 300 nm east of the front. High pressure will continue to
dominate over the central and eastern Atlantic.
