Tropical Weather Discussion for North America, Central America
Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, northern sections of South
America, and Atlantic Ocean to the African coast from the
Equator to 32N. The following information is based on satellite
imagery, weather observations, radar and meteorological analysis.

Based on 1200 UTC surface analysis and satellite imagery through
1615 UTC.

...MONSOON TROUGH/ITCZ...

The monsoon trough extends from 08N13W to 02N20W. The ITCZ
continues from 02N20W to 01N35W to 00N49W. Scattered moderate
convection is from 00N to 05N between 40W and 52W.

...DISCUSSION...

GULF OF MEXICO...

A cold front extends from the Florida Straits near 24N81W to
21N93W. No significant convection is currently associated with
this portion of the cold front. Isolated moderate convection
continues to occur N of the front W of 93W, in response to a mid
level disturbance moving over the region. Moderate northerly
winds are occurring across the majority of the Gulf, except
southerly to the east of a 1018 mb high center that is located
near 28N95W. The cold front is expected to clear the entire
region by tonight with the high pressure over the NW Gulf continuing
to build in its wake. The disturbance over the NW Gulf will move
east, bringing with is showers to the north central Gulf tonight.
Most of the region should see relatively light winds and low seas
for the remainder of this weekend.

CARIBBEAN SEA...

Scattered showers and thunderstorms are occurring over the far
southwestern Caribbean Sea near the coasts of Colombia, Panama,
and Costa Rica. This activity is primarily associated with a
surface trough that extends from the eastern Pacific to low
pressure over NE Colombia. Similar activity is occurring over the
northwestern Caribbean to include central Honduras and central
Cuba. This activity is associated with a trough that extends from
22N82W to 16N86W. Otherwise, typical patches of low clouds and
isolated showers are moving westward across the area in the trade
wind flow. Fresh trades are occurring over the S central
Caribbean, while mainly moderate trades are occurring elsewhere.
These winds will prevail through the remainder of the weekend.

ATLANTIC OCEAN...

A cold front extends from 31N77W to the Florida Straits near
24N81W. A pre-frontal trough extends from 31N73W to 27N78W. The
combination of forcing ahead of this front, convergence with the
surface trough, and an upper trough to the west is supporting
scattered moderate convection with thunderstorms N of 23N between
the cold front and 68W. Moderate to fresh southerly winds are
over this region ahead of the front, with moderate northerly winds
behind the front. To the east, generally quiet weather conditions
exist across the remainder of the western and central Atlantic
basin supported by surface high pressure and dry air in the middle
and upper levels of the atmosphere. The lone exception is
scattered moderate convection S of 08N between 52W and 56W
associated with a surface trough extending from 12N51W to S
America. An upper trough over the eastern Atlantic is supporting
scattered moderate convection from 15N to 19N between 18W and 26W.
For the remainder of the weekend, the cold front over the W
Atlantic will move east and weaken, with thunderstorms continuing
within a few hundred nm east of the front. High pressure will
continue to dominate over the central and eastern Atlantic.
