NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL
130 PM EDT Wed Nov 1 2017

Tropical Weather Discussion for North America, Central America
Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, northern sections of South
America, and Atlantic Ocean to the African coast from the
Equator to 32N. The following information is based on satellite
imagery, weather observations, radar and meteorological analysis.

Based on 1200 UTC surface analysis and satellite imagery through
1645 UTC.

..ITCZ/MONSOON TROUGH...

The monsoon trough extends from the African coast near 11N15W to
09N17W, where the Intertropical Convergence Zone begins and extends
to 06N30W to 06N40W to 05N53W. Scattered moderate convection is
from 02N to 09N between 20W and 40W.

...DISCUSSION...

GULF OF MEXICO...

A weak cold front extends from 29N95.5W to near Brownsville,
Texas. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms are within 120
nm east of the front. A ridge axis extends from high pressure over
the northeastern United States southwestward to near Vera Cruz,
Mexico. This ridge supports mainly moderate winds over the Gulf
basin today, except fresh and southerly within 120 nm east of the
cold front. Over the next 24 hours the front will dissipate.
Otherwise, little change is expected.

CARIBBEAN SEA...

A surface trough is over the western Caribbean with an axis
extending from 17N83W to 10N81W. This trough supports scattered
thunderstorms from 12N to 19N between 81W and 86W. Generally fair
weather covers the remainder of the Caribbean. Mainly moderate
easterly trades cover the Caribbean today, except locally fresh
over the northwestern Caribbean between Cuba and 85W, and near
the coast of Colombia. Very little change is expected over the
next 24 hours.

...HISPANIOLA...

Scattered showers are over the island due to a surface trough
across the area. Expect this pattern to continue for the next 24
hours.

ATLANTIC OCEAN...

A frontal trough extends from near 31N66W to 23N68W to 18N73W.
Scattered showers and thunderstorms are from 23N to 29N between
65W and 68W. A 1013 mb low is centered near 29N51W with a surface
trough extending from the low to near 23N54W. Meanwhile, an upper
low is centered near 28N49W. The combination of these features
supports a broad area of widespread showers with embedded
scattered thunderstorms from 11N to 31N between 40W and 50W.
