...Climate Summary for April, 2023...

The month of April was much drier than normal with near normal
temperatures. The first 3 weeks of the month were quite warm, but
much cooler toward the end.

In Nashville, the average temperature for the month was 60.6
degrees, which is two-tenths of a degree below normal. The average
high temperature was 72.6 degrees and the average low temperature
was 48.6 degrees. The highest temperature was 87 degrees on the
5th and the lowest temperature was 36 degrees on the 24th.

Total rainfall for April was 3.25 inches, which is 1.47 inches
below normal. The greatest 24-hour rainfall was 1.88 inches
spanning the 5th and 6th. There were 11 days with measurable
rainfall, and 6 days with thunderstorms. The fastest wind gust was
48 mph on the 5th. There was also a 47 mph gust on the 1st.

In Clarksville, the average temperature for the month was 58.8
degrees, which is four-tenths of a degree above normal. The
average high temperature was 71.5 degrees and the average low
temperature was 46.1 degrees. The highest temperature was 87
degrees on the 4th and the lowest temperature was 34 degrees on
the 24th.

Total rainfall for April was 2.48 inches, which is 2.07 inches
below normal. The greatest 24-hour rainfall was 1 inch on the 21st.
There were 8 days with measurable rainfall, and 1 day with
thunderstorms. The fastest wind gust was 51 mph on the 1st. There
was also a 50 mph gust on the 5th.

In Crossville, the average temperature for the month was 54.5
degrees, which is nine-tenths of a degree below normal. The
average high temperature was 66.1 degrees and the average low
temperature was 43.0 degrees. The highest temperature was 81
degrees on the 5th and the lowest temperature was 30 degrees on
the 24th. There were 2 days when the temperature dropped to 32
degrees or below.

Total rainfall for April was 2.60 inches, which is 2.87 inches
below normal. The greatest 24-hour rainfall was 1.07 inches on
the 21st. There were 12 days with measurable rainfall, and 3 days
with thunderstorms. The fastest wind gust was 58 mph on the 1st.

Finally, the May outlook from the Climate Prediction Center favors
below normal temperatures and normal to below normal rainfall for
Middle Tennessee.
