**OPHELIA APPROACHING LANDFALL SHORTLY**

NEW INFORMATION
---------------

* CHANGES TO WATCHES AND WARNINGS:
    - None

* CURRENT WATCHES AND WARNINGS:
    - A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Coastal New Hanover,
      Coastal Pender, Inland New Hanover, and Inland Pender

* STORM INFORMATION:
    - About 50 miles east of Wilmington NC or about 120 miles
      east-northeast of Myrtle Beach SC
    - 34.3N 76.9W
    - Storm Intensity 70 mph
    - Movement North-northwest or 345 degrees at 9 mph

SITUATION OVERVIEW
------------------

Tropical Storm Ophelia will make landfall on the North Carolina
Crystal Coast this morning. Gusty winds and locally heavy
rainfall will gradually diminish as the storm moves inland across
eastern North Carolina later today. Dangerous surf and a risk for
rip currents will continue.

POTENTIAL IMPACTS
-----------------

* WIND:
Potential impacts from the main wind event are now unfolding across
coastal southeastern North Carolina. Remain well sheltered from dangerous
wind having possible impacts. If
realized, these impacts include:
    - Some damage to roofing and siding, along with damage to porches
      and awnings.
    - Large limbs will be down with some trees snapped or
      uprooted. Some bridges, causeways, and elevated roads may be
      impacted by high winds making driving on them hazardous.
    - Scattered power and communications outages are possible.
    - Small craft that are not properly moored may break loose.

* FLOODING RAIN:
Potential impacts from heavy rainfall should soon end across coastal
southeastern North Carolina. Remain well guarded against
flood waters having possible limited impacts.

If realized, these impacts could include:
    - Small creeks and ditches may overflow.
    - Flood waters may enter underpasses, low-lying
      spots along roadways, and poor drainage areas may become
      submerged by water.

During the peak of the storm, keep your shoes on and rain gear handy.
Boots and tennis shoes offer the best foot protection if you become
unexpectedly exposed to the elements.
