**NICHOLAS MADE LANDFALL OVER THE UPPER TEXAS COAST EARLY THIS MORNING**

* CHANGES TO WATCHES AND WARNINGS:
    - All watches and warnings have been canceled

* CURRENT WATCHES AND WARNINGS:
    - None

* STORM INFORMATION:
    - About 140 miles northeast of Port Aransas TX
    - 29.3N 95.6W
    - Storm Intensity 70 mph
    - Movement North-northeast or 25 degrees at 9 mph

SITUATION OVERVIEW
------------------

Nicholas made landfall as a hurricane on the upper Texas coast near
Sargent early this morning. Nicholas has weakened back to a tropical
storm as it moved north-northeast toward Houston this morning. Heavy rain
bands and strong winds have become more focused to northeast and east
of the center of Tropical Storm Nicholas. Wind speeds have diminished
significantly over south Texas and the Tropical Storm Warning has been
canceled.

POTENTIAL IMPACTS
-----------------

* SURGE:

Tide levels will remain elevated across the Middle Texas coast through
early this afternoon. A Coastal Flood Advisory is in effect for the
Middle Texas coast from Baffin Bay to Port O'Connor until 3 PM for
minor coastal flooding.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS
----------------------------------

* EVACUATIONS:

RECOVERY PHASE - Do not enter evacuated areas until officials have
given the all clear to return.


* OTHER PREPAREDNESS INFORMATION:

When clearing out fallen trees, be careful with chainsaws and axes.
Always wear protective gear and keep others at a safe distance.
Leaning trees and those which have fallen on roofs or power lines can
be especially dangerous. If you are not in good health or unsure
about what you are doing, have someone with tree cutting experience
do the job. Never cut trees without a partner.
