**TROPICAL DEPRESSION BECOMES TROPICAL STORM IMELDA NEAR THE TEXAS COAST**

* CHANGES TO WATCHES AND WARNINGS:
    - None

* CURRENT WATCHES AND WARNINGS:
    - A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Brazoria Islands,
      Coastal Brazoria, Coastal Galveston, Coastal Harris, and
      Galveston Island and Bolivar Peninsula

* STORM INFORMATION:
    - Near Freeport TX
    - 28.9N 95.3W
    - Storm Intensity 35 mph
    - Movement North or 5 degrees at 7 mph

SITUATION OVERVIEW
------------------

Tropical Storm Imelda is located near Freeport and is moving inland
this afternoon. The main threat remains heavy rainfall and flash
flooding.

POTENTIAL IMPACTS
-----------------

* FLOODING RAIN:
Protect against dangerous rainfall flooding having possible
significant impacts across the eastern portions of Southeast texas.
Potential impacts include:
    - Rivers and tributaries may quickly become swollen with swifter
      currents and overspill their banks in a few places, especially
      in usually vulnerable spots. Small streams, creeks, canals, and
      ditches overflow.
    - Several places may experience inundation at underpasses, low-lying spots,
      and poor drainage areas. Some streets and parking lots take on water
      as storm drains and retention ponds overflow. Driving conditions
      could become hazardous. Some road closures are possible.

* TORNADOES:
Little to no impacts are anticipated at this time
across Southeast Texas.

* WIND:
Limited impacts are possible across coastal areas. Potential impacts in
this area include:
    - Unsecured lightweight objects blown about.


Elsewhere across Southeast Texas, little to no impact is anticipated.

* SURGE:
Little to no impacts are anticipated at this time
across Southeast Texas. Minor coastal flooding is possible along gulf facing
beaches around times of high tide.

Never drive through a flooded roadway. Remember, turn around don't drown!

Closely monitor weather.gov, NOAA Weather radio or local news outlets
for official storm information. Be ready to adapt to possible changes

warnings.
