.AREAS AFFECTED...
This local statement provides information and recommended actions
for people on Rota, Tinian, Saipan, Alamagan, Pagan and Agrihan in
the Northern Mariana Islands.
.WATCHES AND WARNINGS...
A Typhoon Warning remains in effect for Tinian and Saipan. Damaging
winds of 39 mph or more are expected by this evening. If Bualoi
deviates from the current forecast track, typhoon force winds of
74 mph or more are possible tonight.
A Typhoon Watch remains in effect for Rota. If Bualoi deviates from
the current forecast track, damaging winds of 39 mph or more are
possible late this evening.
A Tropical Storm Watch remains in effect for the islands of Agrihan,
Pagan and Alamagan in the Northern Mariana Islands. Damaging winds of
39 mph or higher are possible on Tuesday.
.STORM INFORMATION...
At 100 PM CHST...0300 UTC...the eye of Typhoon Bualoi was located
near Latitude 14.5 degrees North and Longitude 147.8 degrees
East...moving northwest at 13 mph. This is 145 miles ESE of Saipan.
Maximum sustained winds were 100 mph.
.SITUATION OVERVIEW...
Typhoon Bualoi continues to track steadily northwestward, and this
motion is expected to continue through Tuesday. This will bring
damaging winds to Tinian and Saipan, but the threat of damaging
winds has diminished for Rota as long as Bualoi stays on the
current forecast track. The watch for Rota remains in effect
primarily in case Bualoi makes an unexpected left turn, or in case
the wind field expands.
For Tinian and Saipan, preparations for typhoon conditions should
be rushed to completion. For Agrihan, Alamagan and Pagan, damaging
winds may occur on Tuesday.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
For those under a warning...preparations for the protection of life
and property should be rushed to completion. Evacuate if directed
to do so by local officials...or if your home is vulnerable to high
winds or flooding.
For interests at ports...docks...and marinas...complete preparations
as soon as possible. If you live on a boat...make final preparations
for securing your craft before leaving it. Small craft should remain
in port and well secured.
For those under a watch...continue with your preparations and listen
for possible warnings.
For coastal waters under a watch...small craft should return to
port or seek safe harbor. Determine the best strategy for securing
your craft.
Closely monitor NOAA weather radio or other local news outlets
for official storm information. Listen for possible changes to
the forecast.

Service in Tiyan around 900 PM...or sooner if conditions warrant.

Preparations for the onset of damaging winds should be completed
as soon as possible. For your home or business, cover all windows
and doors with shutters or plywood. Move patio furniture and other
loose objects indoors. Brace exterior doors.
Items to bring to a shelter include a first aid kit, medicines and
prescriptions, baby food and diapers, games and books, toiletries,
a battery powered radio, a cell phone, flashlights with extra
batteries, a blanket or sleeping bag for each person, personal
identification, copies of key papers such as insurance policies,
available cash and credit cards.

...Winds...
As Typhoon Bualoi approaches, sustained tropical storm force winds
are expected to begin early this evening. Maximum winds are forecast
to be in the 30 to 40 mph range with gusts to 60 mph. If Bualoi
deviates from the current forecast track, typhoon force winds of
74 mph may briefly occur tonight or Tuesday morning.
Once the center passes early Tuesday morning, winds will shift to
southwest and diminish to 15 to 20 mph by Tuesday afternoon.
...Storm Surge and Surf...
Coastal inundation of 2 to 4 feet is possible as Bualoi passes
tonight and Tuesday. Surf will likely become dangerous at 15 feet
or more along windward exposures.
...Other storm effects...
3 to 5 inches of rain is possible through Tuesday. Flash flooding
or mudslides are possible in flood-prone areas and steep valleys.

Continue preparations for the threat of damaging winds, which are
still possible late this afternoon or evening if Bualoi deviates
to the left of its forecast track. Make sure you have enough food,
water, and medical supplies. Fill your vehicles with fuel. Ensure
your generator is in good working order, and have extra supplies
of fuel for its operation. Clear your property and drains of any
debris. Have a portable radio ready for receiving storm
information.

The latest forecast is for winds to remain below tropical storm
force. If Bualoi deviates from the current forecast track, damaging
winds of 39 mph or more may still occur tonight.
North winds of 15 to 20 mph are expected this afternoon and tonight,
shifting to southwest Tuesday and decreasing to 10 to 15 mph.

Surf will become hazardous at 9 feet or more along north facing
reefs by this evening.
...Other Storm Effects...
Less than an inch or rain is expected from the passage of Typhoon
Bualoi. No flooding is expected.
