**Tropical Storm Watch Remains in Effect Ahead of Hurricane Michael**

* CURRENT WATCHES AND WARNINGS:
    - A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for Hancock, Harrison, and
      Jackson

* STORM INFORMATION:
    - About 250 miles east-southeast of New Orleans LA or about 210
      miles southeast of Gulfport MS
    - 28.3N 86.5W
    - Storm Intensity 140 mph
    - Movement North or 360 degrees at 13 mph

SITUATION OVERVIEW
------------------

OVERVIEW...At 4 AM CDT, the center of Hurricane Michael was
located near latitude 28.3 North, longitude 86.5 West. Michael is
moving toward the north near 13 mph. A turn toward the north-
northeast is expected this morning, with a turn toward the northeast
expected this afternoon or tonight. A motion toward the northeast at
a faster forward speed is forecast on Thursday and Friday. On the
forecast track, the eye of Michael is expected to move ashore over
the Florida Panhandle later today, move northeastward across the
southeastern United States tonight and Thursday, and then move off
the Mid-Atlantic coast away from the United States on Friday.

The primary impact will be storm surge of 1 to 3 feet mainly
along the shores of coastal Mississippi, the shores of Lake
Pontchartrain and Maurepas outside of the hurricane protection
levees, and east facing shores of Louisiana outside of the
hurricane protection levees. Secondary impacts will be wind gusts
that could exceed tropical storm force over portions of coastal
Mississippi.

POTENTIAL IMPACTS

* OTHER COASTAL HAZARDS:
* COASTAL FLOODING...1 to 3 feet above normal for portions of
  coastal Mississippi, portions of the Louisiana coast east of
  the Mississippi River outside of the hurricane risk reduction
  system, and along the shores of Lake Pontchartrain and
  Maurepas outside of the levees. Around 1 foot above ground
  level for areas along the Louisiana coast west of the
  Mississippi River.

* WIND:
Prepare for hazardous wind having possible limited impacts across.
Potential impacts in this area include:
    - Unsecured lightweight objects blown about.
    - Many large tree limbs broken off.
    - Hazardous driving conditions on bridges and other elevated roadways.
    - Scattered power and communications outages.

Elsewhere across Southeast Louisiana and South Mississippi, little to
no impact is anticipated.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS
----------------------------------

When making safety and preparedness decisions, do not focus on the
exact forecast track since hazards such as flooding rain, damaging
wind gusts, storm surge, and tornadoes extend well away from the
center of the storm.

If you live in a place particularly vulnerable to flooding, such as
near the ocean or a large inland lake, in a low-lying or poor
drainage area, in a valley, or near an already swollen river, plan to
move to safe shelter on higher ground.

Always heed the advice of local officials and comply with orders that
are issued. Do not needlessly jeopardize your life or the lives of
others.

Closely monitor weather.gov, NOAA Weather Radio and local news
outlets for official storm information. Listen for possible changes
to the forecast.

There is a threat from tornadoes with this storm. Have multiple ways
to receive Tornado Warnings. Be ready to shelter quickly.
