Tropical Weather Discussion for North America, Central America
Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, northern sections of South
America, and Atlantic Ocean to the African coast from the
Equator to 32N. The following information is based on satellite
imagery, weather observations, radar and meteorological analysis.
Based on 0000 UTC surface analysis and satellite imagery through
0515 UTC.
...SPECIAL FEATURES...
...ATLANTIC OCEAN GALE WARNING...
A pair of cold front extends across the west Atlantic. The first is
from 31N68W to 22N78W. A reinforcing front extends from 31N72W to
24N80W. Winds to minimal gale force can be expected north of 30N
between 67W and 70W and continue through the next 12 hours. The
fronts will merge during the next few days. The new front will
continue moving east across the west-central Atlantic while
weakening. Please read the High Seas Forecast, under WMO/AWIPS

...GALE WARNING for the METEO-FRANCE areas...
Please refer to the METEO-FRANCE High Seas Forecast, that is

MARINE/BULLETIN/GRANDLARGE/METAREA2. Gale-force winds are
forecast for the areas: AGADIR, TARFAYA, and CANARIAS.
...MONSOON TROUGH/ITCZ...
The monsoon trough passes through the coast of Africa near
07N12W to 04N18W. The ITCZ continues from 04N18W to 00N46W.
Scattered showers are noted within 50 nm on either side of the
boundaries between 10W-30W.
...DISCUSSION...
GULF OF MEXICO...
The reinforcing cold front extends across the Florida Straits,
western Cuba and the Yucatan Channel, ending near 21N89W. Scattered
showers are notes along the front. Scatterometer data depicts
moderate to fresh winds across the basin as a high pressure ridge
builds behind the front. A 1023 mb high is located near 29N93W. Expect
for the ridge to prevail across the basin through the next few
days.
CARIBBEAN SEA...
Undersea volcano Kick'em Jenny, north of Grenada near 12.18N
61.38W, is in a state of unrest. The government of Grenada advises
mariners to observe a 5 km or 3.1 nm exclusion zone around
Kick'em Jenny. Please refer to the webpage, www.nadma.gd, for
additional information.
A pair of frontal boundaries are moving across the far northwest
Caribbean waters with scattered showers. These fronts will merge
over the western half of the basin during the next few days. The
resultant front will continue moving east while weakening.
High pressure in the western Atlantic Ocean will support fresh to
locally strong trade winds across the south central Caribbean Sea
during the next several days. Winds will reach near gale force
along the NW coast of Colombia during the overnight hours.
ATLANTIC OCEAN...

The first front extends from 31N68W to 22N78W. A reinforcing front
extends from 31N72W to 24N80W. Scattered moderate convection is
observed along the first front mainly north of 30N between 65W-
68W. Expect for the fronts to merge during the next few days. The
resultant front will continue moving east while weakening.
A surface ridge extends from a 1036 mb high pressure center that
is near 34N27W. Surface anticyclonic wind flow covers the
remainder of the basin to the east of the two cold fronts.
