Georgia**

* CHANGES TO WATCHES AND WARNINGS:
    - The Tropical Storm Watch has been cancelled for Carroll,
      Cherokee, Cobb, Douglas, Heard, Paulding, Pickens, and Troup

* CURRENT WATCHES AND WARNINGS:
    - A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Bartow, Catoosa,
      Chattooga, Dade, Fannin, Floyd, Gilmer, Gordon, Haralson,
      Murray, Polk, Walker, and Whitfield

* STORM INFORMATION:
    - About 270 miles southwest of Rome GA
    - 31.5N 88.4W
    - Storm Intensity 70 mph
    - Movement North-northeast or 25 degrees at 23 mph

SITUATION OVERVIEW
------------------

Tropical Storm Nate, currently located over southern Alabama will
continue to weaken is it moves across Alabama and northwestern Georgia
today and this evening. Heavy rain and strong winds are expected to
increase this afternoon and continue this evening. Isolated tornadoes
are also possible this afternoon and evening.

During the height of the storm, winds of 25 to 35 mph will be possible
with gusts as high as 55 mph across far northwest Georgia and in the
higher elevations of far north and northwest Georgia. Storm total
rainfall is expected to range from 3 to 5 inches north of a line from
Rome, to Dawsonville, to Homer with locally higher amounts possible.


POTENTIAL IMPACTS
-----------------

* WIND:
Protect against hazardous wind having possible limited impacts across
northwest Georgia. Potential impacts in this area include:
    - Damage to porches, awnings, carports, sheds, and unanchored
      mobile homes. Unsecured lightweight objects blown about.
    - Many large tree limbs broken off. A few trees snapped or
      uprooted, but with greater numbers in places where trees are
      shallow rooted. Some fences and roadway signs blown over.
    - A few roads impassable from debris, particularly within urban
      or heavily wooded places. Hazardous driving conditions on
      bridges and other elevated roadways.
    - Scattered power and communications outages.

Elsewhere across NORTH AND CENTRAL GEORGIA, little to no impact is
anticipated.

* FLOODING RAIN:
Protect against locally hazardous rainfall flooding having possible
limited impacts across NORTH AND CENTRAL GEORGIA. Potential impacts
include:
    - Localized rainfall flooding may prompt a few evacuations.
    - Rivers and tributaries may quickly rise with swifter currents.
      Small streams, creeks, and ditches may become swollen and
      overflow in spots.
    - Flood waters can enter a few structures, especially in usually
      vulnerable spots. A few places where rapid ponding of water
      occurs at underpasses, low-lying spots, and poor drainage
      areas. Several storm drains and retention ponds become
      near-full and begin to overflow. Some brief road and bridge
      closures.

* TORNADOES:
Protect against a tornado event having possible limited impacts
across NORTH AND CENTRAL GEORGIA. Potential impacts include:
    - The occurrence of isolated tornadoes can hinder the execution
      of emergency plans during tropical events.
    - A few places may experience tornado damage, along with power
      and communications disruptions.
    - Locations could realize roofs peeled off buildings, chimneys
      toppled, mobile homes pushed off foundations or overturned,
      large tree tops and branches snapped off, shallow-rooted trees
      knocked over, moving vehicles blown off roads, and small boats
      pulled from moorings.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS
----------------------------------

* OTHER PREPAREDNESS INFORMATION:

Outside preparations should be wrapped up as soon as possible before
weather conditions completely deteriorate. Any remaining evacuations
and relocations should be expedited before the onset of tropical
storm force wind.

Keep cell phones well charged and handy. Also, cell phone chargers
for automobiles can be helpful after the storm. Locate your chargers
and keep them with your cell phone.
